Richmond International Raceway announced Friday a ticket price restructuring of more than 18,000 tickets for its Henrico Grandstand, beginning when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the track in May.
Tickets on sale for the May 2 Cup race and other future events will reflect the new ticket price restructuring, according to a track press release. Rows 1 through 5 of the Henrico Grandstand are now $40 per ticket and rows 6 through 15 are now $55 per ticket. The new prices reflect a 50 and 25 percent decrease, respectively, from the prices for the May 2008 Cup weekend, according to the release.
“We have the best, most loyal fans in sports,” said Richmond president Doug Fritz. “We recognize that times are tough and we want to offer our fans a lower entry point to be able to continue to enjoy the thrill of live NASCAR racing.”
Fans currently seated in areas affected by the price restructuring have been contacted by raceway officials. Others interested in relocating to the Henrico Grandstand can do so by calling 866-455-7223.

Jan 9, 2009 at 8:05 PMI first sat in the upper part of those seats when I started going to Richmond in 1995. My first season tickets were in section L a few rows from the top - I NEVER had a problem seeing the race track and $55 was what I paid for them then. I think this is FANtastic and wouldn't mind moving back down there for what would be about a %50 reduction in my ticket cost. I sit in Henrico Tower, the section above the one mentioned, now and find myself looking to move to the front stretch only to be able to see the pits. End of the back stretch and turn 3 are easily the best seats at Richmond as they are the only seats that offer you a complete 360 view of the cars on the track. Everywhere else, you lose them in 3 and 4 behind the garage area. Kudo's to Richmond for making this move I can only hope that others follow suit.

Jan 10, 2009 at 12:45 AMI notice all these tracks are dropping tickets to $40.... That seems a popular number anyway. Now, if we could discuss the fact that I can buy the most expensive item at any souvenir trailer for less than the cost of food, I'd be even happier. I can understand some of the souvenirs being expensive, but food shouldn't be expensive. I'm just thankful I can still carry a cooler around Daytona.

Jan 10, 2009 at 3:18 PMAgain another innovative move by those who set the pace for managing NASCAR "Cup" tracks....maybe the folks at California could learn a lesson or two from Richmond, Martinsville & Bristol....ah, but alas these southern (aka redneck) tracks do not falls under the "can do no wrong blessing" of the inner family of NASCAR....if any of these tracks were experiencing 50% attendance, they would be "LONG GONE"....California sponsors GAVE AWAY 10,000 tickets last years and still had less than 50% attendance....ever wonder why everyone doesn't play under the same rules and guidelines. when all of the cookie-cutter tracks get two (perhaps three) races, there will be no more Bristol, Martinsivlle & Richmond and there will be NO ONE sitting in the stands out on the Left Coast.
