Richard Petty Motorsports' Reed Sorenson says team could use new Dodge engine at Dover
CONCORD, N.C. - Richard Petty Motorsports' Reed Sorenson says that the organization plans to use the new Dodge engine soon but not in Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race or next weekend's Coca-Cola 600.
Sorenson says that it is his understanding that the engine will debut with the team after that pair of races at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"From what I’m hearing from the guys at the shop, [teammate] Kasey [Kahne] might run it at Dover, but we do not have it for this weekend or next weekend," Sorenson said. "I think a month or so ago they were going to try to get it in one of our cars for this race, obviously because you won’t lose something if something happens.
"I don’t think it was ready, from what I’m hearing. I think Kasey might run it at Dover is what I’m hearing right now. We will see. If not at Dover, it should be soon after that. So we’ll, for sure, have it out in one of our cars fairly soon."
Penske Racing is already using the new engine, known as the R6, which debuted on a limited basis last season. The RPM teams have been testing the engine in preparation for usage this season.
