Richard Petty Motorsports' Reed Sorenson says team could use new Dodge engine at Dover

CONCORD, N.C. - Richard Petty Motorsports' Reed Sorenson says that the organization plans to use the new Dodge engine soon but not in Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race or next weekend's Coca-Cola 600.

Sorenson says that it is his understanding that the engine will debut with the team after that pair of races at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

"From what I’m hearing from the guys at the shop, [teammate] Kasey [Kahne] might run it at Dover, but we do not have it for this weekend or next weekend," Sorenson said. "I think a month or so ago they were going to try to get it in one of our cars for this race, obviously because you won’t lose something if something happens.

"I don’t think it was ready, from what I’m hearing. I think Kasey might run it at Dover is what I’m hearing right now. We will see. If not at Dover, it should be soon after that. So we’ll, for sure, have it out in one of our cars fairly soon."

Penske Racing is already using the new engine, known as the R6, which debuted on a limited basis last season. The RPM teams have been testing the engine in preparation for usage this season.

Yeah Reed and Kasey! The two drivers who really need it right now is AJ and Elliott as well. Go Kasey, I pray that those engines work wonders for you all! Reed and Kasey Rock!

Poster #3....To me it sounded like he(Sorenson) was straight-forwardedly answering a media question...Nothing in his answer made him sound spoiled or like he had his foot in his mouth....I am not a fan of Reed Sorenson, but...What is YOUR problem???

William Stuart it's fans like you that Nascar needs to lose. I personaly like to hear the inside scoop from the drivers. Acording to you only the team PR man should say anything about a team.

Agreeing with poster's 4-6, poster 3 William Stewart, you either have a typing problem or sadly lack adequate intellect to communicate. Your posting is one of the worst I have read on this site. Your illiteracy is an insult. Reed is humble, low-key, soft-spoken, and quite a mature, easy to get along, non-insulting great teammate in his few years in NASCAR. If the things you said were true, we certainly would have heard them from Everham, Gnassis, or any one of his handful of former and present teammates or any one of the other driver's from both series he has competed in. Reed has driven incredibly well with the HP he has had on tap thus far.

Elliott needs this engine more than any of them, IMHO. He was the one almost losing his job in the off-season because of lack of perfomance. It wasn't HIS performance that was lacking, it was the cars'! As far as I can tell, Kasey, Reed, and most-undeservedly, AJ have a job next year. Elliott needs the boost! (Remember, this is just my opinion - feel free to disagree with it.)

Kahne and Sadler need a fresh beginning with a new team Sadler has been there since 2006 it hasnt worked out yet.Sadler may not be a jeff Gordon but he is better than what hes been running.Kahne really needs to bolt he has great runs than hes down again up and down hes been there since 2004 and made the chase once Ray dropped the ball after 2006 and the team hasent been right since.I think Kahne will end up at Stewart/Haas taking Bud with him and Sadler will drive the 55 Napa Toyota because Sadler is a better driver than Waltrip and he is great with sponsers. As for RPM the team seems to be ran really crappy who knows what will happen to that team if Kahne leaves. AJ is ok but he is not a great driver and for Sorenson well hes Sorenson.Bottom line Kahne and Sadler deserve better.
