Richard Petty Motorsports' AJ Allmendinger will drive a Ford in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.

NASCAR Scene
AJ Allmendinger will make his debut in a Ford this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, and the Richard Petty Motorsports driver will compete in Fords for the remaining three NASCAR Sprint Cup races this year as the organization prepares for a planned merger with Yates Racing and a move to the manufacturer in 2010.
Allmendinger's No. 44 entry will carry the familiar Petty paint scheme of blue and red for the remainder of the season, beginning with this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Dickies 500. He will be the organization's only driver in Fords for the remainder of the season.
“This is exciting stuff," he said. "It’s like a new beginning for Richard Petty Motorsports. Whenever you do something new, you are a little bit excited and a little bit nervous because you haven't done it before. Elliott [Sadler] drove a Ford for us at Talladega last week, and everyone was really positive about the experience. It’s our turn this week, tire-testing a Ford in Daytona, and we’ll drive one at Phoenix and Homestead as well.
“For us these next three weeks are just learning about what a Ford likes and dislikes as far as chassis setup and engine tuning. Nothing beats experience in this sport, and the only way you get experience is by just doing it. So we are starting our learning curve this week, and, hopefully, we will be a little bit further ahead for next season by doing this."

Nov 3, 2009 at 8:42 PMWell, number 4, I don't know IF you missed races or not; but maybe you missed some of the Ford stuff that has been happening?!?!?!?! - - - FORD has the new FR9 engine. Notice I said FR9, not F9 like all the announcers were calling it this last weekend. IT is the FIRST engine that Ford has ever created JUST for NA$CAR racing. - - - It looked good on Sunday. Waiting to see it at a NON restrictor race. I think THAT will tell us more, IF Matt doesn't get crashed or something. I don't expect Ford to show ALL their cards with it either at this point in time. I feel the Ford Rousch/Yates engines will be the BEST out there next year. Ford don't build junk. Unfortunately not ALL the teams will have the NEW engine till about mid-season. -- - - - As for the cars, they will be caught up on the handling department. There HAS been moments of brilliance lately, AND with Kasey's team coming over to Ford, they will bring what THEY know also. - - - I EXPECT a big turnaround, overall, for Ford next year, IF NA$CAR doesn't penalize them as soon as they run well, like in the past.

Nov 3, 2009 at 11:17 PMJust a question, but shouldn't this article be about a week old? When RPM announced that Sadler was going to be in a Ford at Talladega, they announced too that Allmendinger would be in a Ford the rest of the year because his car wasn't under contract with Dodge.

Nov 4, 2009 at 12:48 AMBig Rod I thought I read that the FR9 was going to go into all Ford racing. I don't think Matt or David were realy going full out. It was nice to see the Fords pull so good out of the hole.I think we are in for some good racing next season in Ford.Werner, right on about Ford and the big profits, goes to to show that they are doing it right. Here in western Canada there are a lot of people switching to Ford ever since the bail outs

Nov 4, 2009 at 3:26 AMYes, number 7, I read that also. And another good thing is they aren't rushing it. Kind of like Canon, when they were slow to get out their digital SLR pro cameras a few years ago. I was wondering what the heck was going on, letting Nikon beat them to the punch in many areas of digital. But lo and behold, Canon came out with the CMOS sensors that were light years ahead of anyone else at the time. NOW Nikon has done the same but it took a long time for them to do it. - - - I kinda think Ford will be in the same boat as Canon was, by waiting and perfecting a better mousetrap, as it were. Go Ford. - - - You are correct Sheeler, they methodically do what is best overall, and don't just throw money at everything to see IF that would work.

Nov 4, 2009 at 2:00 PMIts nice that they are trying out the ford before Daytona next Febuary. The team can work on some problems out before the Daytona 500. The whole team dose not need to struggle the first couple of races with figuring out the set ups for ford. I wish Kasey Kahne would get the ford the last 3 races but I understand that the 9 team is trying to get the best points finsh they can get the next 3 races. Kasey dose not need any more distractions this season. GO RPM GO!!!!!! I hope all 4 cars on Petty Yates can make the chase next year. I have alot of faith in that team and the rest of the ford teams.

Nov 5, 2009 at 4:00 AMSad, you people have NO faith. I don't mean BLIND faith, but educated faith. But then I guess you just have a lot to learn about racing. Ford doesn't NEED to run the new FR9 motor the WHOLE season with everyone, just the ones that have the best chance to get into the chase. SOME of the drivers will have the motor the whole year. WHO they are, I don't know, that is not my choice to make. But you can be sure they will be the TOP drivers in the two organizations. - - - Oh, yes, you are WAY behind times #14; it is First On Race Day, just like last Sunday. I guess YOU didn't see the race, eh? Too bad.

Nov 5, 2009 at 4:13 AMNumber 13, the reason RPM doesn't have the money to compete at this level is because Chrysler/Dodge didn't support them like they should have. WHY do you think they went to Ford? . . . Ford won't leave them in the lurch; they take care of their people, not like Chuv-Or-Leve-It and Dumb Or Dumber's Gasping Engines, who NEED the people to take care of them. - - - Petty and company finally wised up, so should start doing decent again next year.
