Add Richard Childress and Glen Wood to the list of 25 initial candidates for the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip, who are tied at third all-time in Cup victories with 84 apiece, were announced as nominees Tuesday, and Childress and Wood were announced Wednesday by NASCAR.

Both Childress and Wood were drivers but made more of a name for themselves as owners. Wood collaborated with his brothers to form Wood Brothers Racing, which has 96 victories dating back to 1950. Childress formed Richard Childress Racing in 1972 and retired from driving in 1981. Dale Earnhardt drove for him full time from 1984 to the beginning of 2001, winning six Cup titles. RCR drivers have won 89 races.

The sanctioning body will announce all 25 nominees Thursday night.

A panel of 48 voters will select the five members of the inaugural class, which will be inducted in May 2010. One of the 48 votes will come from a collective fan vote done on NASCAR’s official Web site, www.NASCAR.com.
