LONG POND, Pa. – NASCAR Sprint Cup testing is under way at Pocono Raceway Tuesday afternoon, with two drivers filling in for series regulars and Dario Franchitti returning to the driver’s seat.
Franchitti is back behind the wheel of his No. 40 Chip Ganassi Racing Cup entry for the first time since he broke an ankle in the April 26
Nationwide Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.
Two-time Cup champion Terry Labonte is testing the No. 45 Petty Enterprises Dodge that he’ll drive in the Cup race at Pocono later this
year. Kyle Petty is stepping out for seven races, six to be on TNT’s broadcast team and one for his daughter’s wedding. Chad McCumbee and Labonte are sharing driving duties during that span.
Tony Raines is also at the test, driving the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports entry of John Andretti, who is entered in this weekend’s race at
Dover International Speedway with the team. Andretti missed the Coca-Cola 600 to compete in the Indianapolis 500, and the team put Jeff Green in the car.
Testing runs today from 12:30 to 7 p.m. EDT. The teams return to the track Wednesday to test from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a lunch break built into that session.
