The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season was highlighted by Jimmie Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsports team winning a record-setting fourth consecutive Cup title.
It has also been a year marked by new drivers making the 12-team Chase For The Sprint Cup and a year in which three drivers won in the series for the first time. In addition, crashes at Talladega Superspeedway turned attention back to safety as Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Ryan Newman and Hendrick Motorsports’ Mark Martin all flipped in races at the track.
