Fox’s broadcast of Saturday night’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race earned a 3.3 overnight rating from Nielsen Media Research and a 6 market share, Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Daily reports.
The rating was 17.5 percent lower than the 4.0 the race earned overnight last year for Fox.

Apr 20, 2009 at 2:47 PMIf Fox would show the race instead of Joey Logano doing a commercial, a tribute to John Madden, a full-screen lug-nut demonstration, driver interviews, Digger and other ridiculous filler during green-flag racing the viewership would not be so dismal. I am so frustrated because I want to watch the race not superfluous junk. I do not need to be 'educated' or 'entertained' by anything. I need to actually see the race - that is my entertainment.

Apr 20, 2009 at 3:32 PMIt is no wonder that the TV ratings for NASCAR races have gone into the tank. I guess the TV networks and NASCAR don't care at all for folks who have to go to work on saturdays when they start a NATIONWIDE race at 9:50pm and then I guess they don't care about the folks who go to church on sunday when they start a cup race at 9pm or later. As long as they satisfy the West Coast "fans" then I guess the East Coast fans don't matter.

Apr 20, 2009 at 3:33 PMI am sorry, but tv ratings going down with every race has nothing to do with the start times of races, John Madden tributes or even Digger. It has everything to do with the direction Brian France is going with NASCAR. We do not like the COT,the chase, the lucky dog and the qualifing rules. It also does not help when NASCAR throws BS caution flags for bogus debris just to keeps cars from going a lap down and to bunch the field back up. Brian France has so far chose to ignor what the fans are telling him and as a result, tv ratings have been going down every race and they will keep going down. Maybe now that Larry McRenyolds seems to be agreeing with the fans and what we are saying, maybe someone at NASCAR might start to pay attention, I doubt it,but you never know. I did not watch the race at Phoenix and I do not plan on watching another NASCAR race the rest of the season and will watch more baseball and the Indy Car Series.

Apr 20, 2009 at 3:42 PMI agree with #1. I felt like I was watching a little racing between commercials. Same ones over and over!At least do like the IRL (which I watched) and show the racing during during the commercials. I get to the point that I wouldn't buy what the ads are showing over and over. Phoenix was a very good race and I will probably see more of it on "NASCAR Now" and "This Week in NASCAR" today!

Apr 20, 2009 at 3:43 PMI agree with both 1 & 2. WHAT HAPPEN TO 2009 BEING THE YEAR FOR THE FANS??????? ARE THE FANS A JOKE TO THE POINTING OF FINGERS FROM NASCAR MANAGEMENT INSTEAD??????? The fans give input and the fans get NO satisfaction to their needs week after week after week. Conclusion: Nobody taking responsibility in the NASCAR office - your seeing more and more of us fans not being responsible to fill the stands or watch the TV either. Just telling how it is!

Apr 20, 2009 at 4:18 PMCoverage again was awful with too many commercials and I dread listening to Larry, DW and now the inclusion of the ridiculous Digger that they are marketing as much as any regular sponsors. Tip for Larry Mac, go find a 3rd grade grammar book and read it for God's sake. English is not a second language in the US yet so please learn to use it. I fell asleep and woke up long after Mark Martin had won. Forget the watching the race, best this to do is to watch Dave on Sunday night or the recap Monday night. Why waste 4 1/2 - 5 hrs. when you can see the highlights in 30 min to an hour. I'm done camping out in front of the TV for hours on end to be subjected too many commercials and announcers that sound like the fell off the truck. Thanks to FOX, NASCAR and the France family for helping me reclaim some of my weekend to do something more constructive.

But I guess since you all get Scene Daily, you pretty much get all the info you need. I wish all the channels had the split screen so we could continue watching the race while listening to the commercials. What I really hate is when there is a caution and we don't get back until someone has crashed again, or there is a commercial and when they come back and say, while we were away there was a wreck, etc.....We seem to miss all the action. And the darn single file racing is so boring. It sure doesn't look like all the cars are equal to me...........the COT was supposed to level the playing field????????????????????????????

Apr 20, 2009 at 11:08 PMI think a night race is great every once in awhile. I like Richmond and the Bristol night race. But to have a night race, it should be somewhere in the East. We, the viewers are treated to watching the drivers racing into the sun so they can't see anything for a lot of the race. Is that supposed to be exciting? If you want a night race, have it in the East where it is already night when they start. No race should be run while the sun is setting except the Coke 600. Every race on the West coast should start at noon their time. Who wants to watch a race that starts at 9:00PM? I did, but I'm addicted!
