Mar 23, 2009 at 12:40 PMNot a surprise at all. Wasn't much "racing" to speak of. It was a short track "follow the leader" again. Bristol and the COT just don't seem to mix since the repaving was done. The racing is bland, very few passes and not even a handful of lead challenges from the pack. I really feel for those who bought a ticket to see a great race, and got a short track version of Atlanta's race. If the ratings hit and decreased ticket sales isn't enough of a wake up call for nascar to change the COT, I'm not sure what is. We have great crew chiefs and some of the brightest minds in the garage and shops, use them!

In an era when the auto sector is more dependant than ever on the product on the track to sell cars, nascar has abonded them.

Mar 23, 2009 at 3:06 PMThe "sellout" was nothing but a publicity stunt. I live 50 miles from the track along the interstate going to the track from the north. The normal bumper to bumper Rvs of years past was down to a trickle. It looked like a normal weekend of RV traffic. I would wager the upcoming night race is going to be a really hard sell with the lack of action of this race.

Mar 23, 2009 at 3:54 PMSeems like older races at Bristol were alot more exciting, and that can only be because of adjustments to track and COT. The banging and rubbing is almost none exsistent and the minute someone hits another car, geez! Come on, it's bad enough people can't afford to come to the races, but at least make it watchable from home. Follow the leader races are killing the sport. Hope race at Martinsville is better, where you can't help but hit someone at least once!

They can fix this fast by returning the cars to look at least like Fords, chevys, dodge, and even toyota... until they do that..the sport will go downhill.....its so obvious, I'm surprised they don't see it.

When the manufacturers had to aero a car then there was something racing that really had the shape of the car sold on MONDAY that won on SUNDAY. Yes the Nationwide cars look better but they are just a shape shifter to the COT's. Let's get GM with both Impala and Grand Prix's, Ford with a real Fusion and Dodge with a REAL Charger, Toyota..well..alsoran. Does anybody remember what the cars looked like 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Mar 23, 2009 at 6:41 PMDoug, I'm 61 years old and I knew 30 year ago what the cars looked like. You are right on the mark. You knew Richard Petty was in a Chrysler product. You knew David Pearson was in a Ford or Mercury. You knew Dale Earnhardt was in a Chevy. Today, if you painted all the cars in primer and left the decals off, you couldn't tell one from another. I think the worst things that happened to our sport are wind tunnels and shaker rigs. Everything today has to be "Aero" perfect or the drivers and owners whine and cry to NASCAR. I truly believe the state of NASCAR is in the same shape as our country......screwed up.

Mar 23, 2009 at 7:17 PMI have to agree with much of the commentary about the Bristol race. Personally, the COT has been a big disappointment. Nascar continues to be too involved in the setup of the car which should be the sole responsibility of the crew. The race car setups are like the playbook NFL coaches use. When it gets to the point where Nascar tells the crew what shocks, swaybars and springs are placed in the car, then this is too much . It would be the like the NFL commissioner telling the NFL coaches what plays they could use in a football game. Sprint Cup racing has been turned into an expensive IROC series. Yes, I turned to the Golf game about half way into the Bristol race. I wish Nascar was the series it was about twenty years ago where crew chiefs and drivers determined the outcome of a race.

This plus the fact that the more Kyle Busch wins, the less amount of TV fans will watch the complete race, not to take away his talent as a driver, just a fact of the long time Nascar fans I know, including me "who says every week if he wins again" - I'm mowing the yard next week instead of watching the race!! But in reality Nascar has parodied themselves into boredom - I have a hard time staying awake during the race & my daughter says it best, "it's all the same except for the last lap"!!!

Mar 25, 2009 at 12:52 PMAnother race with low tv ratings. Now, that is a surprise. I guess the only ones who did not see that coming is Brian France,NASCAR and FOX.
Report as AbuseI do not think that it is about who is winning and who is not. It is about we NASCAR fans do not like all the changes and the direction that NASCAR is going and we remember how good it used to be. We do not like the COT,the chase, the lucky dog and the top 35 in points being given a starting spot. Also, NASCAR needs to stop throwing BS caution flags for phantom debris, that no one seems to be able to see, just to bunch the field back up. Every car does not have to be on the lead lap. I think that if it was all about the economy that as track attendance goes down, tv ratings would go up, but that is not happening. Track attendance and tv ratings are going down at the same time, which means to me that the fans do not like the product that NASCAR is trying to sell. I would however like to thank NASCAR for helping me find other motor sports series such as The American Lemans and Indy Car Series, where they still race and not put on a show.

NASCAR needs to remember what / who got them to where they were! I do not know what new fans Brian France is trying to get, but I doubt if they will stick with / support NASCAR long term, that is why the ratings went up some, then mostly down. One last thought, the one thing that put NASCAR in the national limelight was the fight between Bobby Allison & Cale Yarbough @ Daytona - that same event today, NASCAR would suspend / fine them big $, for the rest of the season "how could it be the best thing then & such a spirit be such a sin now - as well as competitive racing"?
