TALLADEGA, Ala. – Torrey Galida, a former Ford and Roush Fenway Racing executive who most recently was president of the motorsports division for sports marketing company Millsport, has taken a new job as executive vice president and chief marketing officer of TRG Motorsports.
One of his main priorities will be finding sponsorship so the team can race every race in 2010.
“[TRG] was going to become a client, and we were going to do his business development work for [owner Kevin Buckler],” Galida said Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. “It just turned out that the more I saw, the more I liked, the more interested I got. He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I’m really excited about the challenge.”
Galida said the team plans to make its first partial-season sponsorship announcement in a few weeks.
TRG Motorsports has run the full season, mostly with David Gilliland and Bobby Labonte in the driver’s seat.
“Things look good for us for next year,” Galida said. “This year was a year we did a bunch of start-and-parks and raced several times and had some sponsorships and started some relationships.”
Galida said the team would like for Labonte, the 2000 Cup champion, to drive next year.
“We’d love to have Bobby drive for us,” Galida said. “It has been great with him. I think he’s had a good time, and he’s done really well in our car, and he’s a great guy. He’s exactly what our team needs right now.”

Nov 2, 2009 at 5:53 PM#2 you are so right, little mention of what David has done for this team.If not for him making this team look good do you think Bobby would of been willing to give them a try.And can remember Buckler holding DG back and making him understand that he would have to do things thier way. Then they get Bobby and all of a sudden they could purchase new cars and be allowed to go for it.Now maybe two years in a row Bobby benefits from DG's hard work at both Yates and TRG.Sad.

Nov 2, 2009 at 9:55 PMTorrey from TRG is pretty cool, I must say that he has responded to every one of my emails that I've pestered and badgered him with regarding financial stats.
Report as AbuseAs for the new TRG #70 car, I don't know why they have it, and how Mike Skinner is in the ride as DG DNQ'd it at Watkins Glen and the team lost an additional $40,000 in the DNQ attempt.

Nov 3, 2009 at 3:41 AMIt seems like this isn't really the week to run a second car, given that there are so many different teams running with their part time cars. I'd say have Bobby in the 70 and Skinner in the 71, but that doesn't really help that much.
Report as AbuseTRG would be smart to sign Bobby Labonte. Ask.com loves him, and could probably sign for all of 2010 for what they got for the ~25 races with Yates.

Nov 3, 2009 at 9:37 AMIf they land Bobby and Ask.com they can and will be top 10.
Report as AbuseAnd as for DG he has worked hard and has done a great job but he has no wins and is not a past champion that is what is hurting him at TRG. I hope he can land a ride at JGR in a fourth car, he can drive.

Nov 3, 2009 at 4:48 PM#9 i keep hearing that JGR is not going for a 4th car next year but if he wants to compete with Hendrick and Rousch he would be wise to do so, Gilliland mentioned about a month ago they were working on something and were going to make an announcement soon so lets hope its a 4th car and he is the driver, with a good team and car i think he could do as well as with Yates.
