NASCAR testing proposal gives 24 tests to each organization
JOLIET, Ill. – NASCAR handed teams a draft of a new testing policy Saturday at Chicagoland Speedway. The sanctioning body will take more input from teams before finalizing it.
The proposal gives each organization 24 test days at tracks where the Sprint Cup teams compete, with a maximum of two cars per test. All of the team’s drivers can test, but no driver can test for a team for which he does not drive. New teams would get test days depending on how much they race.
There is typically a week blackout period before a race and a blackout period from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15. The Daytona tests will remain and not be included.
There is no rookie provision.
“We’re probably in the 80 percent [for sure] bracket right now in that sheet – with a couple of things fine-tuned maybe,” NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton said. “Whether there will be or there won’t be [something for rookies], we don’t know yet because we’re not totally done.
“That’s probably the third cut at it so far. It was fairly well received. We’ve got teams on all sides of it – too much and too little.”
