BROOKLYN, Mich. – NASCAR has taken the engines of 11 cars in Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway to test at its Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C.
NASCAR periodically takes engines so it can see how much horsepower they produce.
The engines taken were from Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports/Chevrolet), Tony Stewart (Hendrick), Clint Bowyer (Earnhardt Childress Racing Technologies/Chevrolet), Juan Pablo Montoya (ECRT), Brian Vickers (Toyota Racing Development), David Reutimann (TRD), Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing/Toyota), Carl Edwards (Roush-Yates Engines/Ford), Greg Biffle (Roush-Yates/Ford), Sam Hornish Jr. (Penske Racing/Dodge) and Elliott Sadler (Richard Petty Motorsports/Dodge).

Aug 16, 2009 at 7:40 PMSounds like NASCAR knows something's up. But I would think at a Fuel Mileage track like Michigan they would lean it out to conserve fuel, so I doubt anyone will be pushing cubic inches.

Aug 17, 2009 at 4:56 PMYou know really they should be leaving the top drivers alone, they are the ones that are entertaining us and actually racing, the ones they should be taking engines from are the pathetic go or go homers, these drivers entertain no-one, they drive 30 or 40 laps and thats it game over yet they do ok in practice and qualifiying but all of a sudden during the race the car decides to quit and happily they will collect $70000. What a joke, sure the big boys might be cheating a little but the small fry,s can cheat too .

Aug 17, 2009 at 9:04 PMWell it's about time. We have the total Hendrick domination all year and FINALLY nascar MIGHT do some thing to level the field like they did QUICKLY IN NATIONWIDE putting the screws to Toyota..
Report as AbuseI doubt anything will be done though as Hendrick will just write a cool million check to NASCAR to have all his 7 cars dominate the BORING HENDRICK chase. No wonder fewer people are going to the races and even less watching them on TV...No one enjoys week after week, the same ol Hendrick show.

Aug 17, 2009 at 9:08 PMFor the cry babys in Nationwide crying over Toyota's. The HP on these cars is very close for all the manufacturers. The difference is Toyota Teams all pull together and share the technical advice. The little three do not do that, ESPECIALLY the Hendrick group.
Report as AbuseYou can absolutely bet that the Hendrick cars are pumping out way more HP than any other make.
Ask Jack Rousch !!! ha,ha

Aug 18, 2009 at 6:38 AMSo NASCRAP takes all these engines, but nobody but corrupt NASCRAP people see the outcome.
Report as AbuseIn the old days they were tore down and inspected at the track for all to see but that stopped because NASCRAP does not want anybody to see the results. That way they can let the people that pads NASCRAP's pockets the most win. It is all fixed and controlled by NASCRAP and has been for several years.

Aug 18, 2009 at 12:04 PMRiccary, So this year Rick wrote a bigger check than Joe. Last year remember Kyle was winning everything, so Joe must have been paying more for favors. As for Jack, he shouldn't be so cheap. I'm sure he could afford a little more than Rick and Joe, for at least one years worth of favors.
