NASCAR suspends three crew members for violation of substance-abuse policy
NASCAR has suspended three crew members, including one from the Roush Fenway Racing Sprint Cup team of David Ragan, for violations of its substance-abuse policy, the sanctioning body announced Tuesday.
Those suspended were Roush Fenway’s Richard Henninger, Tatman Motorsports crew chief Gary St. Amant and Tatman crew member Mike Hennessy. Tatman Motorsports fielded a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry for Brett Butler last month at Bristol Motor Speedway.
In a news release, NASCAR said Hennessy’s violation came Aug. 27 while Henninger’s and St. Amant’s came on Aug. 28.
This is the first year that NASCAR is conducting random drug tests during race weekends, although NASCAR doesn’t typically specify whether a failed drug test or another violation of the policy (i.e., possession of drugs) resulted in a crew member’s suspension.
