maybe he is tired of being a P/C poster child like hid Daddy Jeff Gordon.

RICHMOND, Va. – NASCAR has postponed the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 from Saturday night to 1 p.m. EDT Sunday at Richmond International Raceway because of the threat of Tropical Storm Hanna, series officials announced Friday. The officials canceled qualifying for both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series races Friday as well.
With up to four inches of rain possible in the Richmond area, NASCAR officials opted to go ahead and postpone the events Friday. The Nationwide Series race will be run Sunday at 7 p.m. after the stands are cleared from the Cup race.
"We’ve been in constant touch today with the governor’s office, Henrico County officials, and other local officials and reached this decision about (5 p.m.) after much discussion and consideration," NASCAR Vice President Jim Hunter said. "The emergency officials in the state and locally are telling us there are going to be some high winds tonight and in the morning that could knock down power lines, knock down trees in the roads. We just felt like this was the right thing to do."
The Cup race, the final of NASCAR’s regular season that will set the 12-driver Chase For The Sprint Cup field, will now go up against the first full day of the NFL and will be televised on ESPN. The Nationwide race will be on ESPN2.
The Cup race will no longer be an impound event as teams will now be allowed to work on the cars Sunday morning before the race.
"We worked very, very closely with NASCAR and the local officials and keeping a very close eye on the weather," Richmond International Raceway President Doug Fritz said. "Sometimes there’s hope and sometimes there’s not. … We’re still looking forward to two days of great racing all crammed into one now."
The race at which of these remaining tracks will have the largest impact on who makes the field for the Chase For The Sprint Cup?

Sep 5, 2008 at 5:17 PMWhy are they waiting for the Nationwide race to run after the grandstands are cleared?

Sep 5, 2008 at 5:53 PMThis doesn't make sense... "The Nationwide Series race will be run Sunday at 7 p.m. after the stands are cleared from the Nationwide race."

Sep 5, 2008 at 7:29 PMThat was a misprint. They meant to say the Nationwide race would be run Sunday evening after the grandstands are cleared following the Sprint Cup race.

Sep 5, 2008 at 7:58 PMThey have to clear the stands to make room for the people who have purchased tickets for the Nationwide race. They can't get those people in their seats with the people who purchased Cup tickets sitting there.

Sep 5, 2008 at 8:12 PMThis is an impound race and the Sprint cars are set up for night racing. I wonder if Nascar is going to remove the impound.

Sep 5, 2008 at 9:13 PMIt says right in the article above that the impound is lifted. "The Cup race will no longer be an impound event as teams will now be allowed to work on the cars Sunday morning before the race."

Sep 6, 2008 at 7:24 AMOne good thing Logano won't be racing on Sunday, so he is no longer an issue in the outcome of the race.

Sep 6, 2008 at 8:51 AMWhy are they racing out of order? The Nationwide Series is suppose to race 1st, so they put rubber down on the track for the Cup race!

Sep 6, 2008 at 1:27 PMit's 224p on saturday. rain here in richmond has stopped. i flew from san diego and spent three nights in hotel to see tonight's race. but it was postponed yesterday. hanna was a bust. at least here. no high winds, no thunder. just a steady rain. and it's over. ugh! can't change my flight tomorrow to go back to west coast. i know nascar can't control the weather...but they blew it in california in feb by calling that one way too late. and they blew this one by calling it way too early.

Sep 6, 2008 at 4:42 PMAt least the rain stopped down there. Come a few hundred miles north to New Jersey; it's like a friggin' monsoon up here!

Sep 6, 2008 at 5:56 PMYou can't outguess the weather. Nascar had everyone's safety in mind when they made the decisions they did. Can you imagine how horrible it would be to have all those people in and around the speedway if the storm had been as violent as hurricanes can and will be?

Sep 6, 2008 at 6:06 PMFranchitti, Logano out. They just need to find a way to get Carpentier and Hornish out as well. You know there is going to be wreck with those gentlemen in the race. COUNT ON IT!

Sep 6, 2008 at 6:38 PMHere in Toronto we don't get ESPN at all - sometimes TSN shows the races overnight but there's no way to tell; the listings are all out of whack. First race I've missed in I don't know how long. Darn, darn, darn (or words to that effect).

Sep 7, 2008 at 1:02 AMIf you aren't getting it Toronto I guess I won't be getting it in Ottawa either - everything seems to take precedence over NASCAR races Dorothy

Sep 7, 2008 at 11:24 AMMost of us are getting shafted over this: I understand the races are going to be on the new TSN2 channel - BUT - very few cable companies presently carry this. Most of us will be getting CFL and NFL games ALL DAY AND NIGHT LONG. God forbid they should sacrifice a couple of early-season games for one of the biggest NASCAR races of the year. Shows how much clout NASCAR has in Canada. Oh, and I see the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge is on at 3:00 a.m. Duh.
