Bill France, Red Byron, Lee Petty, Joe Weatherly, and Fireball Roberts would be my picks. Reason being is that 2/3 of that list didn't impact NASCAR until 20 years after it had been founded. The inaugural class of HOF inductees should be those that had an impact in the first few years, not the last few. Not that I think they don't belong in the HOF right now, but why are Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick even nominated? They're still involved in the sport! (The same applies to Richard Petty, but he's known more for his skills on the track, not in the team office). This list is pretty depressing. No one in this list should have gotten involved in NASCAR after about 1963. That's 15 years of NASCAR, there are certainly 25 worthy people from that timespan.

Phoenix, to a certain extent I agree with your comment about still being involved in the sport. But then I think about the olympics and how many participants are already pros in their sport. That was originally set up to recognize up and coming athlets, not pros.
What exactly IS the criria here.

Just what the new hall of fame needs, Rick Hendrick a convicted felon inducted in its first year. I'll bet Pete Rose wishes he drove a stock car................

If they have Tim Flock and Buck Baker on the list I feel Carl Kiekhaefer their car owner should be a nomine, too. He may have been the first multi team owner and totally dominated Nascar for 2 years(55 & 56). In 1956 He had the Top 3 spots in the final points championship. After that France forced him out with rule changes that made his cars less than competitive.

To be eligible, former drivers must have competed 10 years in NASCAR and be retired from racing for a minimum of three years. Non-drivers must have worked at least 10 years in the industry. (Potential candidates with shorter careers may be considered if there are special circumstances.)

Bet the convicted felon Rick Hendrick makes it in on the first attempt. Keep Hustling Charlie, the baseball Hall of Fame induction is just over the next millinieum for Pete Rose.
