The NASCAR Foundation will donate $250,000 to Missionary Flights International for its relief efforts for the people of Haiti following the devastating earthquakes in the country, the foundation announced Monday.

Missionary Flights International is a non-profit mission aviation service, providing air service for missionaries, medical teams, families and supplies to support efforts in both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Hendrick Motorsports has loaned two planes to MFI, which since the earthquakes has flown in vital supplies and medical personnel, search and rescue teams and other trained workers to aid in the relief as well as help bring back people from Haiti including United State missionary workers and Haitian orphans.

NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers appeared Saturday at the National Basketball Association Charlotte Bobcats’ game to help raise awareness of relief efforts by the American Red Cross. Speed also aired a Haiti relief special Sunday night.

“We know well of the loyalty and giving nature of NASCAR and Bobcats fans,” said NASCAR Senior Vice President Paul Brooks. “The actions of Rick Hendrick and his group at Hendrick Motorsports inspired us to get involved in the Haiti relief efforts in a much more significant way. Both our sports have charities close to our athletes’ hearts but the needs in Haiti go beyond those borders – it’s a true human need.”
