LEBANON, Tenn. – Morgan-McClure Motorsports is back.
The team will return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Talladega Superspeedway when it attempts to make the field on April 24 for the Aaron’s 499 on April 26 with driver Eric McClure, sources said Friday at Nashville Superspeedway.
The team will again field the No. 4 Chevrolet, with sponsorship from Hefty brand.
Morgan-McClure began in the Cup series in 1983 and was stalwart in NASCAR’s top division until sponsorship woes sidelined the team in 2007.
The team employed a small amount of crew members, even when it didn’t field a Cup car.
If the Talladega race weekend goes well, a source said the team could attempt to make more races later in the season.

Apr 10, 2009 at 10:11 PMWhile I think it would be amazing to see them make the race and show that the old teams still know how to get it done, I don't think Eric McClue is the best driver to represent what may be a comeback for your team- I am sure that Sterling Marlin or Ken Schrader would be happy to fill that seat, and they have experience at Talladega like few others.

Apr 11, 2009 at 6:37 AMThe only reason the team is getting back on the track is because of Eric. He put together the deal. Hefty is his sponsor. MMM hasn't had any luck finding a sponsor for anyone and their shop has been like a ghost town for the better part of a year. If Eric hadn't put this deal together the 4 car would not have seen the light of day this season.

Apr 12, 2009 at 5:07 PMI know and agree with #2, but also with #1. I like Schrader, and Marlin and maybe someone else, but not McClure. I know the sponsor comes with him. I hope it does go well and they will be able to compete again in the Nationwide series if nothing else. I like the older teams and drivers. I do not root for ANY of the new drivers. Joe Nemechek, Sterling Marlin, and Jeremy Mayfield are who I root for... especially Joe Nemechek!!!!!!!!!!!!!
