Morgan-McClure Motorsports has named Eric McClure to be its driver for the team’s return to NASCAR Sprint Cup competition the weekend of the Aaron’s 499 Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway.

The 30-year-old McClure has competed in two Cup events and four Nationwide Series events for the organization, earning a best finish of 26th and 22nd, respectively, in the two series.

Hefty brand, featuring its Steel Sak waste bag, will serve as primary sponsor at Talladega and continue its relationship with McClure that began in 2006 and continues in the Nationwide Series with Rensi-Hamilton Racing.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of Morgan McClure Motorsports’ return to the track,” said McClure, the nephew of team co-owner Larry McClure. “Growing up and as I started racing, I always dreamed of driving the No. 4 car, and now to have the opportunity to do that is pretty special. The No. 4 car has meant so much to me over the years, and to not have it at the track every week has been sad to me personally.”

Morgan-McClure began in the Cup series in 1983 and competed regularly in NASCAR’s top division before sponsorship woes sidelined the team in 2007. Four of the team’s 14 Cup wins have come at Talladega.

“My dad [Jerry McClure] and I felt like we needed to do anything we could to help it get back to the track, and with the involvement with Hefty brand and their partners, it has turned out to be a really great thing,” McClure said. “We hope to go down there and make the race.”

Financial terms of the sponsorship agreement were not disclosed.
