DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Michael Waltrip Racing’s David Reutimann edged Richard Childress Racing’s Casey Mears for the fastest lap in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice Thursday at Daytona International Speedway.
In preparation for Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400, Reutimann turned a lap of 192.135 mph. That was faster that Mears, who went 192.061.
Mears’ teammate, Kevin Harvick, was third at 192.029, with Red Bull Racing’s Brian Vickers fourth and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya fifth.
Sixth through 10th were Matt Kenseth (Roush Fenway Racing), Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing), Kurt Busch (Penske Racing), Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports) and Sam Hornish Jr. (Penske).
Hornish’s fast lap happened before he got in an accident with Roush Fenway’s Greg Biffle. Both drivers will have to go to backup cars.
Qualifying is slated for 4:10 p.m. EDT on Friday, with the 160-lap race scheduled for shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.

Jul 2, 2009 at 10:20 PMGreat job Reutimann showing those people at your 'home' track that you're a force to contend with. Zephyrhills would love to see you in Victory Lane on July 4!

Jul 3, 2009 at 10:49 AMI have no idea who the two GOGH cars will be. I am surpised nobody PE'd this race. I am guessing it will be Raines and Gunselman. Sadly those are the two cars that I want to see run a full race tomorrow. Larry could really use that purse money to balance out his budget.
