Three NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers participated in a Goodyear tire test at Daytona International Speedway Tuesday and Wednesday, including defending July race winner Jamie McMurray.
Roush Fenway Racing’s McMurray, Petty Enterprises’ Bobby Labonte and Red Bull Racing’s Mike Skinner, who filled in for AJ Allmendinger for five races earlier this season, participated in the test of different Goodyear tire compounds and structures in preparation for the July 5 Cole Zero 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
"I guess they had some tire concerns with the tire we had here in February,” McMurray said, according to a news release. “We’ve got three teams here. One team is working with the construction of the tire, I guess the sidewall construction. Then one team is working on compounds.
"We’re just doing the test with the load sensors to let them know how much load is on the car, whether you have an aggressive-type front-end setup or just a standard setup. There are three teams here with three different objectives.”
