Jamie McMurray will visit victory lane at Watkins Glen International this weekend at least once.
Roush Fenway Racing officials said Wednesday that he will serve as honorary starter for Friday's Crown Royal Grand-Am race and present the trophy to the race winner along with his regular duties as the driver of the team's 26 Ford sponsored by Crown Royal in Sunday's Sprint Cup race.
“I’ve never been on that side of the flag stand,” McMurray said. “This will be a first time waving the flag to start a race. Crown Royal does so much around Watkins Glen and in the Grand-Am Series, that it was a perfect fit when they asked me to be the honorary starter for the Crown Royal 200. I’m really looking forward to Friday night. It should be a great experience.”
Friday’s Grand-Am race is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
“After what happened at Watkins Glen last year and then almost a repeat this year at Sonoma, I think everyone on the No. 26 Crown Royal team is looking forward to returning to the road course,” McMurray said. “Last year we were very competitive in each of the practices, and then in the race, we had a top-five car but were taken out early. I’m looking forward to a great weekend.”
