McDowell says he understands MWR decision to use Skinner

Sprint Cup rookie Michael McDowell said he supports Michael Waltrip Racing's decision to replace him with Mike Skinner in the 3M Performance 400 this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.

McDowell, whose No. 00 team is currently outside the top 35 in owner points, said in a statement that he's in favor of doing "whatever it takes to improve the performance of our team."

"No driver wants to get out of the car, but I understand that every part of our program needs to be evaluated, and that certainly includes me," McDowell said. "I plan to support Mike Skinner and our team any way I can, and hopefully learn some things that will help when I get back in the car."

Yeah, all I have to say is that JJ Yeley was replaced for a race and then found himself out for a year and rideless. Lets face it, it isnt like McDowell is lighting the world on fire or anything. Besides, I tend to beleive this is more about him crashing out about 10 innocent cars at the Glen on Sunday.

    Ryden,
You need to have all the facts before you speak. The 38 caused the wreck trying to take out the 00. The video was shown on This week in NASCAR and NASCAR now, Second Skinner is doing the same thing he did for AJ and RedBull Racing. Look at those results.
The 00 will be ready for next year. Cup racing is getting tougher and tougher every year. So why not start now for 09.

as far as JJ Yeley, he will land on his feet, with a much better team. The 96 team needs to completly rebuild or get out of the sport, they have never run a competitive car. Its not JJ's fault.

I would love to see McDowell in the #12 car. He is a good driver he just has not had the equipment to show his talent.

Hey Steve ,did Mikey help to convince you that the 38 caused the wreck? Because the video shows nothing of the sort,it's inconclusive at best. The one thing it does show is the 00 needing 3 lanes to get off the corner and fencing the 38.
Mikey's covering the 00's posterior and using his panel spot on Nascar this week as a bully pupit.
