DOVER, Del. – Mayfield Motorsports did not have a hauler inside the NASCAR Sprint Cup garage when it opened Friday morning at Dover International Speedway.
On the Web site of J.J. Yeley, the current driver for the No. 41 team, a posting states that Yeley has been told the team was not coming to the Autism Speaks 400 this weekend.
Yeley was named the driver of the Mayfield Motorsports car earlier this month after driver/owner Jeremy Mayfield was indefinitely suspended for failing a drug test. Mayfield contends a mix of prescription and Claritin-D caused the positive test, but NASCAR officials have disputed those claims.
There was no answer to calls to the shop Friday morning.
As of 10 a.m., the Mayfield hauler was not inside the track, meaning he is too late to go through inspection and be on track for the 11:30 a.m. EDT practice. Without practicing, the team won’t be allowed to qualify.
Without Mayfield, there will be 48 cars attempting to make the race in qualifying today.
