Matt Kenseth looks to close out season with strong run at Phoenix
Matt Kenseth sees Phoenix International Raceway as a test of the recent improvements Roush Fenway Racing has made in terms of performance.
After a strong start to the season in which he won the opening pair of races, Kenseth and the organization struggled to consistently net top performances. In recent weeks, though, they have appeared to be more on track. Now, Kenseth says they will really test their progress in Sunday's Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at the 1-mile flat track.
“It seems like we have been making gains the last few weeks,” Kenseth says. “We’ve got to keep it rolling. This week at Phoenix will be a good test for us. We have been off at the flat tracks, so Phoenix will be a big test for us this weekend and we are hoping to close the season out strong.
Kenseth, who is making his 15th start at the track, has one win there, in 2002. He has six top-10 finishes, but finished 27th at the track earlier this season. He has won a Nationwide Series race there as well.
“I enjoy the track at Phoenix," he says. "It can be challenging, but we have had success there over the years. We had a tough year there last year, so we’ll have our work cut out for us making sure that we get the car competitive.”
