There weren't that many bad calls on timing and pitstops.
LONG POND, Pa. - Mark Martin is now the only racer in his household.
Martin worked with his son, Matt, at local race tracks for years. Now, though, Matt Martin has decided to walk away from the sport - and that's just fine with his dad.
Mark Martin, who has raced in NASCAR since 1981, with a two-year break in 1984 and 1985, says that his 16-year-old son is now "just being a kid."
"[He] makes great grades," Martin said. "[He's] just a good kid."
Martin has no concerns whatsoever about his son's decision not to follow in his own path, either.
"I'm relieved," Martin said Friday at Pocono Raceway, where he'll race this weekend as part of his limited schedule with Dale Earnhardt Inc. "He's talking about college. A little different path than I took, so that's good."
