Michael Waltrip Racing has moved crew chief Paul Andrews to the job of overseeing its research and development team while competition director Bobby Kennedy will assume the role as crew chief for Michael Waltrip.

Waltrip is 30th in driver points and in owner points after five races. He qualified for all five events after missing 22 of the 36 races last
season.

“Paul did a great job in helping us reach our top-35 goal, and I know he will continue his diligence with our test teams for the betterment of our organization,” Waltrip said in a statement. “Bobby has always been there for me and my NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry team to help with our decision-making process. We have known each other for a very long time, and I guess you can say that we are made for each other.

“Going to Martinsville with Bobby, knowing we have the luxury of being in the top 35, is a relief. Now, it is all about being successful in the race.”

Andrews, the crew chief for Alan Kulwicki in his 1992 Winston Cup championship season, had joined MWR during the offseason after starting 2007 with Petty Enterprises.
