Lexus reported stolen from Denny Hamlin's property
HAMPTON, Ga. – Denny Hamlin admits that it’s unsettling to know that people apparently recently came on his property and stole a $50,000 Lexus loaned to the Joe Gibbs Racing driver from Toyota.
According to a Cornelius (N.C.) Police investigation report, the 2008 black Lexus LS 460L was allegedly taken from Hamlin’s home in the wee hours of Aug. 19. A Charlotte television station showed video Friday from Hamlin’s home security system that caught people backing the car out of his driveway.
“Everyone feels violated when their house is broken into,” Hamlin said Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. “I’ve never had anything stolen until that point. But they’ll get them. There’s only so many places you can hide. It’s not like they stole an Accord or a Camry or something like that. There’s not a whole lot of use other than joy riding a car like that.”
The theft was reported by an employee of Hamlin.
“The bad part is I had four other vehicles sitting right outside,” Hamlin said. “They just went right for that one. Obviously they know what quality Toyota vehicles [are] put out. I had a couple in the garage I’m glad they didn’t take.”
Hamlin said he had just cleaned out the car and there was nothing valuable in it.
“I had that car cleaned out because I had to take it to the body shop a month or two weeks before that,” Hamlin said
Why was the car in the body shop?
“We’re not going to talk about that,” Hamlin said with a laugh.
