DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Joe Gibbs Racing announced a new contract for Kyle Busch last month. Busch agreed to another long-term “contract” this past week.
Busch proposed to girlfriend Samantha Sarcinella on Thursday night. Busch and Sarcinella have been dating for the last couple of years.
“I felt like it was the next step in the direction of our lives together,” Busch said Saturday. “I felt like it was a good decision to make – I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think so. She’s been sticking around for a while and putting up with all of my b.s., so I think she’s pretty worthy of a ring and furthering along our relationship.”
An avid racer in many stock-car series, Busch said he didn’t anticipate his busy racing schedule slowing down because of marriage.
“She’s very, very receptive to me and my racing,” Busch said. “It’s a big deal for me to have her so supportive of what I do. She lets me go race all the time. … When you find someone that’s right, accepts what you do and how crazy you are, you have pretty much found it.”
It’s been an off-season of transition for Busch, who in addition to the engagement started his own Camping World Truck Series team. That team hit a speed bump on Thursday as it found out it would not have sponsorship from the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians.
Busch said he still plans to run two full-time trucks. Tayler Malsam will drive one of the trucks, while Busch and Brian Ickler will share the other.
“We’re just trying to hit a little harder on the sponsorship front,” Busch said. “It’s a great opportunity for people to come on board and jump in with a great organization with a bunch of great people.
“We’re going to be successful.”
Busch said he has sponsorship for his truck for Daytona.
“I’m going to run the 15 races I’m going to run and if we can get people to fill my races and Brian Ickler’s races, that’s great,” Busch said. “If they just want to do my races, then I’ll be footing the bill for Brian. I’ll be footing the bill for myself if I don’t get anything.
“We have a lot of good partners we’ve been talking to. We haven’t been able to sign anything yet [waiting on the Miccosukee decision].”
