LOUDON, N.H. - Kyle Busch’s edge in the Chase For The Sprint Cup because of his eight victories in 2008 went away quickly at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver had problems with a sway bar on the No. 18 Toyota, and after working on it and falling off the lead lap, Busch later was involved in an accident.

Busch fell seven spots to eighth in the Cup standings after finishing 34th, and he’s now 74 points out of the Chase lead.

Busch left the track without speaking to the media.

“We had a part failure, and it’s one of those things you can’t do [anything] about,” crew chief Steve Addington said. “We weren’t very good when we unloaded here, but we felt like we did the right things and were going to have a good race car. Part failure cost us so we’ll just have to go back and re-evaluate.”

JGR Senior Vice President Jimmy Makar said the front sway bar was either loose or wasn’t adjusted correctly.

“It’s probably human error,” Makar said. “We wondered before the race if it actually broke, but we found the piece on the race track after the race, so it didn’t break. It looked like it just backed itself off and then came undone.

“It’s a slight chance, we’re going to look at it a little bit more when we get to the shop, that it was set with not enough threads engaged, but I think that was the more distant thought that that might have happened. I would think again, the nuts were just not tight and it backed itself off vibrating during the race.”

Busch and his team haven’t had much go wrong this year, so to have a problem in the first race of the Chase is “disappointing and discouraging,” Makar said.

“For a while, everybody is going to be kind of bummed out and down on themselves and disappointed,” Makar said. “That’s a tough team, they’ll bounce back. They’ll get it out of their system. They’ll talk about it, go back to Dover, I’m sure they’ll run well there and they’ll try to overcome this. It’s a tough place to put yourself in. These guys are fighters. They’ll bounce back.”

From 1st to 8th in one race. Of course he disappeared right after the race. When he wins he seems to stick around for interviews. One more bad race and we can goodbye to Mr Wonderful.

HILARIOUS. allllll of these "EXPERTS" have said all year that those 80 bonus points were so important and no one could catch him. i wonder sometimes if these analyst's have ever watched a race because if they have, they would know that ANYTHING can happen ANYTIME and no one is invincible.

Far be it beyond me to defend anything to do with the shrub, but the top 4 or 5 place drivers of a race are required to interview. Having said that; it sure was nice not having to listen to his mouth. It is too early to start celebrating. JJ was down, and people were counting him out; he came back and won the championship. kb may be 8th, 74 pts behind leader; Tony (7th) is only 1 pt in front of him and Denny (6th) is one pt in front of Tony. So lets don't jinx it by celebrating too early.

Chris #3, my first words during the replay were "he did it on purpose", and I think that showed clearly in the "in car camera" replay. Glad I wasn't the only one to notice that. Too bad NASCAR didn't.

Kyle Busch's misfortune should feed you sharks for a very long time. I am not a Busch fan but I wouldn;t count him out just yet. Seems like a coincidence that he should have car trouble like that on the first race of the chase, especially after having such a good season with hardly any car problems at all. It was another great Earnhardt Jr. interview, they could at least use subtitles so we can understand what he is trying to say.

    # 4 you are wrong all the drivers are required to talk to the media if asked. Kyle was asked and he didnt want to. He is a very bad sport and a big baby. He will make a very bad champion he does not have what it takes. When things are going good for him he is all over the media. When they go bad he takes his tail between his legs and runs. poor sport and always will be. I say go JR.Kyle held him up for a long time and Jr lost his right side grip. Jr will getem in dover.

On Nascar now after the race JD and Joe Gibbs had to do the interview for cry baby Bush. Nice of Bush to take off and have his boss talk for him. I never thought Joe Gibbs would have to change diapers.

I can not stand Kyle Busch!! I was so happy when he had car trouble, it is a shame that he didn't DNF!!! He is such a spoiled BRAT! It iritates me when he does an interview and doesn't remove his sunglasses also. I am a Dale Jr. Fan!! So hopefully since he wants to win the champsonship, we will have the determation to go all the way. I can't wait for Homestead to watch him get the Trophy!! Go 88 Jr!!!

#6 your "tongue-in-cheek" remark about Jr's ability, or lack of it, to speak in public was totally uncalled for, guess YOU are on the list of "The Most Wanted Speakers" due to your eloquence. I know I can talk a mile a minute, but stick a mic in my face knowing millions are watching and I KNOW I'd become tongue-tied. Guess we cant all be perfect tho, like some think they are!!!. Go get em' Jr., let your driving do your talking!!!

Just prior to the race in Loudon, Kyle's car was going through a series of inspections at the end of pit road in front of where I was sitting. It was rolled up 3 times on to a small ramp. The last time coming down, the inner tire track on the ramp collapsed so the left wheel was nearly on the ground and the right side up on the ramp - approx 10". Could this event, which was just moments before line up had an effect on the stabilizers, bolts or suspension???? beatrice a

Kyles Bush's incredible talent has made his team look good all year. No one in NASCAR can drive a bad car as well as Kyle. When somebodys mistake wipe's out a season -long point lead he is only human to avaod comment untill it cools down, and all the facts are known. Kyle could probably be a crew chief if he wasn't such an amazing driver.

connie,#13 have you ever heard the expression in sports your only as good as the people you surround yourself with? i would think this applies to kyle busch as much as anyone. and he only avoids the press when he's not in the winners circle.

Come on #11 Billie, your argument in support of Jr. might just be believable if he were a rookie, the stage fright excuse just doesn't cut any ice. He has been in the spot light more than most of the other drivers simply because of his legendary father. One would think that he could be more coherent by reason of his majority of camera time compared with the other drivers. Nice try though.

I love to read these comments, some of you are more interested in bashing the messengers than you are about the articles. But lets face it,like Beth, telling someone they are not a true fan and phony, like she really knows the person. And for people to say he wrecked on purpose to get a caution,I would challenge any of you to handle that car the way it was.And #16,he surrounds himself with other race car drivers more than the media. It doesn't matter if he talks or not he is bashed either way by the KB haters.Go figure. At least you can get autographs from KB,I have been in line and heard some of the comments on JR autograph sessions. My husband never could get one and that was one of dreams, unfortuntly he passed away suddenly at Talledega. As to were I probably have over 20 things signed by Kyle,Kurt And their dad.ALL nice people if you get the chance to meet them.

#24 you need to relax and enjoy racing, JR acted like a cry baby again this past weekend it ls only passion to blame everybody else for is poor communication about the car, and yes you are right, he is far from been like Dale Sr, i think even PAPA Hendrick is thinking maybe that was a bad move. Enjoy this weekend race, I know i will no matter what.
