Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch dominated the NASCAR Camping World Series East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, becoming the first Sprint Cup driver to win the event.
Kasey Kahne finished second in the race last year, while Kevin Harvick was also runnerup in 2007. But Busch won the pole and led 168 of the 200 laps and won the Long John Silver’s 200.
“It was a great day for us,” Busch said. “The car was flawless.”
With the victory, Busch locked up a starting spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at the end of the season.
After pit stops on lap 79, Busch restarted sixth but charged through through the field to take the lead from Chris Johnson on lap 104. Busch gave up the lead again to top off with fuel on lap 118, and after restarting second, he moved past Jason Bowles for the lead on lap 125 led the rest of the way.
Defending race winner Brian Ickler finished second, with David Mayhew third. Jeffrey Earnhardt passed Paulie Harraka in the closing laps to grab fourth, with Harraka fifth.
