Todd Berrier, crew chief for Richard Childress Racing’s Kevin Harvick, expects that his team will test at least 10 times next year despite NASCAR’s ban on testing at all tracks that host its Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Truck, East and West series.
Berrier expects his team will look at options such as the Virginia International Raceway and Heartland Park Topeka (Kan.) road courses, along with Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina and the half-mile Sandusky Speedway in Ohio. None of the facilities is covered by the ban.
“The places you can test, you’re going to test,” Berrier said in a phone interview Monday.
Berrier expects the No. 29 team to test several times throughout the season at non-NASCAR venues and possibly before the season begins, weather permitting.
NASCAR announced last month that it was placing a one-year moratorium, starting Jan. 1, on testing at all its Cup, Nationwide, Truck and regional touring series tracks to help teams manage costs. But testing at non-NASCAR sanctioned tracks is still permitted.
“There’s no way that we won’t do it 10 times next year,” Berrier said.

Dec 15, 2008 at 7:10 PMHuh? RCR hasn't won six races since 2006 and their horsepower edge from that season is long gone.

Dec 16, 2008 at 3:36 PMIf you got the money honey go for it. I am sure that most of the big teams will be testing during the season just not at the tracks Nascar has banded. I agree that a lot of testing is not necessary 10 is a good number. If your a veturn driver you shouldn't have to test any more than that. People all over our country are in trouble and need money so teams need to be careful how they spend money that really doesn't need to be spent.

Dec 16, 2008 at 9:16 PMI wonder how much this hurts Ky Speedway. They generate a bit of revenue from testing, especially since they don't have a cup race. There were a lot of teams that test 1.5 mile tracks there.
