Kevin Harvick talks with reporters out on the starting grid at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Friday.

Latest Headlines

CONCORD, N.C. – A day after his public altercation with Carl Edwards in the Nationwide Series garage, Kevin Harvick said Edwards might have messed with the wrong guy.

“You just gotta be careful who you wanna pick a fight with,” Harvick said. “If you want to pick a fight with the wrong person, sometimes it turns around and bites you, no matter how big and tough you think you are.”

Harvick’s comments came a little more than 24 hours after he and Edwards engaged in a physical shoving match that knocked Edwards onto the hood of Harvick’s No. 33 car and ended with Harvick’s friend Jeff Smith dragging Edwards away in a headlock.

“Obviously, it’s pretty well-documented everything that happened,” Harvick said. “Best thing I can tell you is we were in our pit stall and just protected our turf.”

Last week at Talladega, Harvick accused Edwards of being a “pansy” for racing near the back of the pack all day before charging to the front and causing a major wreck.

Edwards left a profane note for Harvick after the race, which ultimately led to the altercation at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

“Kevin, thanks for [criticizing] me on T.V.,” the note said. “I was really trying to screw up everyone’s day! Love, Carl.”

Harvick said he had never received a note from another driver, “not since about fifth grade.”

Reminded that Edwards probably wasn’t trying to cause a wreck since he was racing for a championship, Harvick shot back, “So are we.”

“I could give two [cents] who Carl Edwards is and what he’s in the race for,” he said.

Edwards, for his part, tried to avoid addressing the situation. He said he preferred to focus on racing.

“Nobody likes to deal with that stuff,” he said. “It’s nice to get in [the car] and do what we’re here to do, not the rest of this stuff.”

Asked why he preferred to take the high road when Harvick was lobbing insults, Edwards shook his head.

“It just doesn’t matter,” he said. “That’s the truth – it just doesn’t matter. I am what I am, he is what he is. If those things are different, that’s fine, it doesn’t bother me.”

Carl Edwards need to act like a man and confront Kevin face to face if he has a problem, not act like a 5th grader and write him a note. You go Kevin!!!

I agree you go Kevin. What a baby Edwards is . To grab Kevin when he is trying to walk away. Edards is so lucky he didnt get the old Kevin he would have punched his lights out. That is what Edwards needs a punch in his mouth. I have always said and will say Carl Edwards is a big phony.

I think Carl Edwards is a real bonehead, and what he lacks in talent he fills with aggression. Isn't this guy on probation for aggressive driving?

Why don't everyone just leave well enough alone. It's over and so far no one has been hurt. Both drivers a pros and they should act accordingly. Carl, No more love note to anyone. Kevin, you tried to walk away from it and that took a man. I like both drivers. Let them blow off steam sometime and let the Media keep their noses out of it. Go out behind the garage and settle it by yourselves and come out, bruised and battered.

Well, if you are gonna stroll into another drivers stall in the garage, acting like a billy bad-arse, you might wanna make sure you can back it up! Dont blame Harvick at all for being mad, and as some are saying...Edwards needs to grow up, and stop letting his head swell up anymore then it has of late.

Coca Suma, Go brew me another cup of hot Chocolate and leave the commenting to real fans, like the rest of us. Carl is clearly in the wrong here. Kevin is right about one thing, what happened when Carl really wanted to get racing? He apparently forgot how long a race car is and wiped out at least 5 Chase drivers including himself. I am so sick and tired of the "Oh golly Gee, I am so happy to be here junk, because clearly the real Carl Edwards is coming to light. There has be be some reason this guy didnt land the Army deal that was reported to be close to done which would have saw him be in an Army car for 12 races next season. This guy's attitude clearly sucks when someone confronts his stupid butt on a situation. Come hold me mommy Kevin Pushed me into a real car..........A CHEVY!!! Carl needs to grow up because he caused this situation by driving stupid. I hope he never wins a championship until he learns to control those steroid outbursts.

This posting is to much you all are big mouths just like Harvick. Looks like bro-ing up with Smoke has led him to take the end of the year whining award.... Can't wait to see the battle in the Nationwide race tongiht. Where it really matters is on the track and the 29 has been in the 99's mirror all year and that is not going to change anytime in the near future...Kick his A Carl Q the Duck!!!!

I know of something else Carl can do with that duck. He is a sissy and a show off and a big momma's boy. MM sounds like the pot calling the kettle black on the "mouthing off" since you seem to be right in there . I don't care for Harvick but I was glad to see him put sissy boy Edwards in his place!! CARL CUASED THE WRECK PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

Way to go, Kevin, to you and your crew. Cousin Carl has a dark side besides being two-faced. It's been proven. Ask your teammate, Jeff. His showboating the last two weeks didn't pay off. Good Luck Kevin and RCR!!

Some drivers just can't hide their jelousy about Carls' talent as a driver and fittness to be able to handle a car so well. He certainly didn't want to do that. I'm sure he feels bad enough without some jerk mouthing off. Harvick is showing his true color.

Edwards has already admitted he caused the wreck which is more than most of them do. If he was a "bad boy" no one would have anything to pick on him about. Lets just say good guys do always finish first one way or another. People just can't see real talent when they see it.

I am so glad to see that someone is going to give Carl a lesson that is much needed. Just because someone is muscular, it does not mean that they have the ability to win every fight they attempt to start. Kevin tried taking the high road and walking away, but Carl persued it further. Too bad it dented Kev's car. I bet the guys in the shop are going to be more than happy to fix that, though!

MM(#9)you need to face facts, Carl caused the wreak, Carl was calling other drivers idiots, Carl wrote the note and left it in Harvick's plane, Carl called Harvick out in his own garage stall at the track, Carl kept the fight going when Harvick turned his back on him. I can think of much worse words to describe Carl Edwards than just calling him a pansy, but they won't approve my post if I tell it like it is. And how pathetic of you to drag Smoke into this little brawl.

It doesn't matter what happen in the race, after the race or any other time you don't go into someones garage or pit stall and argue #1 and if you put your hands on someone from that team you better be prepared for the consequences. In any level of racing or series every drive/team knows that its an unwritten rule that you do not go there.

Maybe the reason two of the other chasers didn't say anything is because they were teammates. Reckon what they were thinking about the loon, Bear? Thanks, Les! Glad someone else remembers this incident. The Pshcho should have been banned from racing. That smirky face--goody two shoes outfit needs someone to pound him. Who's afraid of a duck even if it thinks it is the fittest of them all!!! Way to go, Kevin. Someone needs to take care of NASCAR's business for them.I'm so sick of them kissing @$$

Carl has repeatedly called drivers idiots. Pansy is no worse and just a word to describe frustration so why is Carl reacting so negative to it? If ya ask me, this is "Racin The Way It Ougth To Be." This is like the old days. Two p'd off guys getting out their frustrations. Sport could use a little more of this, instead of all this politically right stuff all the time.

Sorry I have my reasons for not liking Carl, I should, as he is from our area, Wallace's Schraeder, and they like him, The Army should never sponser him, During the anthem he looks around , at the sky, (yes airplaines) pokes others and just pretends its all a fun kids time. About the same during the prayer. I put him way below the Kyle Bush attitude in growing up!

Isn't this what NASCAR said they were going to do(at beginning of 2008 season).....(to paraphrase)... "Let the boys be boys and handle it on their own..." Well...this is getting people talking at a time when the sport was starting to suffer(in the middle of the chase, no less)...ratings were not great and this may bring some people back for tonight's Sprint Cup race at Lowe's...just to see how this develops.. People get upset in less pressure filled situations than these 2 guys are in....Give them BOTH a break....
