An Associated Press photo of the altercation between Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick shows the two drivers were involved in more than just a mere shove Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The two had a confrontation in the NASCAR Nationwide Series garage Thursday, one that came following Harvick's derogatory remark about Edwards' racing style at Talladega Superspeedway. Harvick questioned the fact that Edwards held back during much of the race at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday before trying to push his way to the front of the field. Edwards was trying to push his Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle in that race, but Biffle spun and a 12-car accident ensued. Harvick was caught up in the incident.

At Lowe's Motor Speedway Thursday, witnesses said that Edwards walked to Harvick's pit stall to spark the confrontation. While the initial reports involved witnesses saying that Harvick shoved Edwards, the photo shows Edwards actually grabbed Harvick as part of the confrontation.

NASCAR officials previously stated that no penalties would be assessed the drivers for what officials deemed a "heated conversation."

    Isn't this what NASCAR said they wanted at the start of the 2008 season (to paraphrase and condense)"Let the drivers figure it out themselves"... ...And don't incidents like this make more people watch?

    You're right Teema.....it's an interesting story line that will make fans tune in each week to see how it plays out on the track. Nascar won't admit it, but they have to love this stuff. Good for the ratings.

    Edwards really messed things up for alot of drivers last week. I'm glad this happened with Harvick. Kevin doesn't back down to anyone. I'm sure Kevin will get him when the time is right. So Carl when Kevin puts you in the third row,don't act like your surprised.

    I am no fan of either driver, but NASCAR better do something with Carl Edwards. I've noticed how he tries to intimidate and bully other drivers, even his own teamates. He came into the 29 pit area and started the scuffle. NASCAR needs to fine him to get his attention. Several years ago they suspended Jimmy Spencer for 1 race for punching Kurt Bush while he was setting in his car in his pit. Fair is fair.

    Tim, I think you may have misunderstood what happened. Carl went into the NATIONWIDE garage of Harvick, not the 29 pit area. As for the incident, it's just another event that people that don't like one of the drivers involved will get unnecessarily worked up over. NASCAR shouldn't fine or suspend either driver- they didn't fine or suspend Montoya or Harvick after their scuffle at Watkins Glen in 2007. If NASCAR is truly letting the drivers "show their emotions" or whatever they said, this will just do what NASCAR needs: generate publicity, ticket sales, and TV viewers.

    just like the time Harvick came after Biffle... doesn't NASCAR keep on showing us the Allison-Yarborough conflict...when Cale's helmet hit Bobby's fist..years from now when these guys get older they'll be telling the "new" fans the stories of the good old days... oh heck...it sells tickets...give both of them a raise...

    If the drivers want to work out disputes themselves, so be it---within reason. It does get fans and media buzzing. That said, it wasn't all that long ago when physical altercations automatically meant penalties, severe penalties. It looks like more and more "decisions" by the sanctioning body are "judgemental" ones, and their judgement draws controversy with almost every call. The part that gets under my skin is how Carl puts on this goody-goody, squeaky clean, phony exterior, expecting everyone to treat him like royalty. But when things don't go his way, his true, two-faced colors really shine through.

    Glad NASCAR is staying out of it - although I'm sure the officials will step in if it goes to far. But have to note a discrepancy in the article. Biffle was spun out by his team mate Edwards not paying attention to how he was lined up while pushing. Gee Carl - how did that happen? Were you trying to spin him out the same way you tried to spiin the 29 at spring Daytona but ended up spinning put yourself while boosting the 29 to a win? Carl - you really need to work on basic driving techniques.

    Carl Edwards has two faces, one for the camera that is fake and his real face which is the face of a bully. He has had this for a long time. Remember last year what he did to Matt while Matt was trying to do an interview with speedtv at Martinsville. How about when he almost took off Dale Jr's arm on the cool down lap of a NNS race, Nascar needs to step in and teach Carl some manners.

    Now none of you could tell me that if you were a nascar driver that you'd never do something like that. Carl does not have two faces..EVERYONE gets mad sometimes. Get over it..Almost every single driver has been in some kind of fight with another driver. It's part of racing..and just because you're used to seeing Carl all nice, when you see him like this you freak out and think he's like that all the time. People don't make as big of a deal when it's another driver that gets into a fight..so why make a big deal about carl? He's human, he get's mad and makes mistakes JUST like everyone else. Get over it.

    Carl admitted that it was his fault, which most drivers won't, including Harvick. Kevin has always had a big mouth, but it's a different story when he causes or is involved in a wreck. He always has a smirk on his face that makes me not trust what he is saying. Must be nice to be perfect.

    Who cares???? I love NASCAR best when the focus is on great feats of driving like when Jimmie lost the draft at Dega and fought to come back to a respectable finish. Both Kevin and Carl have a lot of personality and if they want to punch each oother out, go for it. The idiots who think we want to see the pictures are cretins.

    It started as a heated verbal argument, then Mr. Tough Guy Edwards grabs at Kevins throat, Kevin powerbombs him onto the hood of Kevin's #33 car. Its all plain and simple, I'm sorry, but if someone grabs at one's throat, thats cause for some type of physical aggression, or "defending one's turf". Edwards again has proven to alot of fans that hes got anger issues and a rookie mentality.LOSER. Rusty Wallace said it best " Carl may be stronger, but Kevin is just flat out crazy,the wrong guy to pick a fight with."

    I think a lot of fans are missing the "point." The Harvick/Edwards feud is good for the sport.What's NOT good is Edwards taking out so many Chase drivers. That is idiotic!

    The point is Carl felt bad about the accident he caused, anybody would. Hearing such a nasty remark probably just put him over the edge. Some of these personal attacks are so off base and unnessary. His privite live is nobody's bussiness anyway. I would be very proud the have a son like Carl.

    I think Carl Edwards needs to be tested for steriod use, as it tends to make you agressive. And considering this is not his first time he has done this of late. I did think it kind of childish of him to leave a note on Kevin's airplane, however.
