Kevin Conway will drive the Robby Gordon Motorsports No. 7 car for the remainder of the season, sponsor Extenze announced Tuesday.

Conway started the year with Front Row Motorsports for 21 races before parting ways just before the race weekend at Michigan last month. The only Sprint Cup rookie still racing this year, Conway drove for RGM at Bristol two weeks ago and finished 36th.

Conway, who is 35th in the driver standings, has one top-20 (14th at Daytona in July) and five top-30 finishes this year.

Team owner/driver Robby Gordon said at Bristol that he likely would only run select races for the remainder of the year if he signed Conway to drive the No. 7 car, which is 35th in the owner standings and has a 125-point cushion on 36th. The top 35 teams in the owner standings each week are guaranteed spots in that weekend’s race, and the top 35 teams at the end of the year are guaranteed spots in the first five races of the following season.

“I am thrilled to finally be able to announce our signing with Robby Gordon Motorsports,” Conway said in a news release. “The Bristol race a couple weekends ago came together very late and gave everyone just a quick peek at what was possibly to come. Now that everything is in place, I can’t wait to take to the track this weekend in Atlanta. … I am very thankful for this opportunity Robby has given me and Extenze.

“I’m looking forward to helping keep the No. 7 in the top 35, gaining more seat time and finishing races.”
