Roush Fenway Racing's Matt Kenseth is finding relaxation in racing in other series this week.
After a recent surge in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings – Kenseth has climbed from 22nd to eighth in the last nine races - he's spending the series' off week wheeling around in other series. Tuesday night, he returned to Wisconsin's Slinger Super Speedway for the 29th annual Slinger Nationals and won the fourth title in the 200-mile Late Model race.
“It was good hard racing,” Kenseth said, according to a speedway race report. "It was a little bit [of] back and forth, but everybody’s trying to win, and that’s what you do, try to race as hard as you can every lap, and these guys did a great job. They sure made us work for it.”
Tonight, he's back in action again. Kenseth is scheduled to participate in the "Bootlegger's Run" Race of Champions at Eagle Raceway near Lincoln, Neb. Clint Bowyer, Ken Schrader and Sterling Marlin are also planning to participate in the race.
After that, Kenseth will visit his hometown of Cambridge, Wis., for the Ninth Annual Matt Kenseth Fan Club Party, which is open to members only.
Then he heads to Newton, Iowa, where he and Kyle Busch will compete in the Rasmussen Group Twin 75s American Speed Association Super Later Models race on Sunday evening.
“It’s funny,” Kenseth said. “Most guys take their off week to go to the beach or to get away from racing, and I’m doing just the opposite. But I always have a lot of fun racing late models and racing with no pressure of points or anything. I’m really looking forward to this week a lot and think it’ll be a nice change of pace for me.”
