CONCORD, N.C. - When racing at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Kasey Kahne says he knows from the start of the first practice session whether or not his No. 9 Gillett Evernham Dodge will be fast on race day.

Kahne, a three-time winner at the 1.5-mile track, including this year's Coca-Cola 600 on May 25, says there is no leeway when racing at LMS. Either you're fast and will run up front, or you're not and need to figure out why.

"You either feel that you have a competitive racecar or that you have work to do to make the car faster," Kahne said. "From there, the first couple laps of the race it’s always a big question mark.  Once you run three or four laps you’re like, ‘We’re going to have a shot tonight.’  You know how competitive you are going to be as soon as you get inside the race car.”

Although Kahne just missed making the cut for the 10-race Chase For The Sprint Cup championship, he has run extremely well during his NASCAR career at LMS.

In nine starts here, Kahne not only has three victories, he also has three top-five and four top-10 finishes and only one DNF.

At other 1.5-mile tracks this season, Kahne has been hit or miss.

In seven starts at intermediate tracks this season, has one win, one top-five and one top-10 finish (sixth at Las Vegas).

"I'm not really sure," said Kahne, when asked about the reasons for his inconsistency at intermediate tracks this season. “Track[s] that are similar to Lowe’s, we’ve been able to apply some things that we’ve learned and have been successful.  For the other banked mile-and-a-half tracks, we just haven’t hit on the combination needed to be really strong."

After racing in Saturday night's Bank of America 500 here, Kahne hopes to run well at the three other intermediate  tracks left on the schedule (Atlanta Motor Speedway, Oct. 26, Texas Motor Speedway, Nov. 2 and Homestead-Miami Speedway, Nov. 16).

"We have to go back to Atlanta and Texas and then on to Homestead – tracks that we’ve struggled at and haven’t been as consistent as we need to be," Kahne said. "

"The good news is that we came to the test here, and [team manager] Kenny [Francis] brought some new things that really worked well.  I think that we’ll be competitive here Saturday night.”

It will be cool to see Kahne do the sweep and get another win for Dodge, Lets hope he drives a Dodge next year not a Toyota.

Judging by where his car is on the practice charts right now, he looks like he's got a good car! He wasn't lyin' when he said Kenny found some stuff at the test!

Someone almost always wrecks Kane. Also I don't think Everham has the money he used to have, to put into giving Kasey a good car.As always he's #1 to me!!! Wearing my lucky #9 shirt Sat. GO Kasey!!!
