CONCORD, N.C. – Gillett Evernham Motorsports may have endured two crashed cars in the Sprint Showdown, but the organization still ended the night with a driver in the Sprint All-Star Race.
Kasey Kahne earned the fan vote to take the final berth in the all-star field.
“I was gonna head home, drink a couple Budweisers and watch the Sprint All-Star Race, but thanks to the fans I get to race," Kahne said. "The fans are a big part of this race weekend, they're a big part of the Sprint All-Star weekend here at Lowe's, and its cool they put us into it. They didn't have to do that and they did."
Kahne finished fifth in the Sprint Showdown qualifying race. Teammates Elliott Sadler and Patrick Carpentier were both involved in crashes in that race.
Robby Gordon finished second in the voting, Sprint officials said, with Sadler finishing third.
