Penske Racing development driver Justin Allgaier won Sunday's ARCA/ReMax Hantz Group 200 at Toledo Speedway - and the 2008 series title, leaping past the top two in the point standings with his performance.

Scott Speed was caught up in a crash with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., crashed with him again in a move deemed to be retaliation by ARCA officials and was parked for the remainder of the race, costing the Red Bull Racing driver his shot at the series' championship. Stenhouse, who is a Roush Fenway Racing development driver, entered the race second in the standings but was unable to finish the event after the crash with Speed.

Allgaier, in the final event of the season, took the lead with 12 laps to go and held on for his sixth win of the season, and eighth of his career. He is driving a limited NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule for Penske this year.

“This is unbelievable,” Allgaier said. “We came in hoping to protect our third-place position in points – we had Frank [Kimmel] right behind us. We came in with nothing to lose, so we did what we do every week: We raced as hard as we could and went for the win. As things turned out, it also brought our team the championship. I’m so proud of all these guys on this crew; they’re the reason I’m up here tonight. I am so relieved this is over. Now we can really focus on the Nationwide races at Texas and Homestead. This really helps with the confidence.”

Speed, who is driving in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Red Bull for the remainder of this season, was rear-ended by Stenhouse on lap 27. Speed then hit the wall and sustained extensive damage.

"[Stenhouse] was on my bumper, and he pushed me flat out until I hit the wall,” Speed said, according to a series news release. “And then the car was completely undrivable; it wasn’t even close. It was so bad from hitting the wall, I couldn’t do anything with it. Stenhouse started it, and he isn’t going to win this championship with that attitude. That was ridiculous. That was the most blatant thing I ever saw in my life. Honestly, it’s just ARCA; that’s just how it is.”

Speed lost a lap making repairs on pit road. Then as the leaders, including Stenhouse, were passing him to put him another lap down, the series release says that Speed turned right into Stenhouse, sending him into the Turn 2 wall. Speed also then hit the inside wall, causing further damage to his car.

“Last time I was here [in Toledo], I got into the rumble strips, and that caused me to press down on my brakes and ride up the racetrack,” Stenhouse said. “That’s the same thing that happened today. I hit the rumble strips in [Turns] 1 and 2, and that made me get into the brakes in 3 and 4. Speed was there when my car rode up the race track, but it really wasn’t intentional. I didn’t really expect him to come after me after that, but when I saw him slowing down on the track I knew that I was in trouble.”

ARCA officials then parked Speed for rough driving for the remainder of the race. He had already been on probation for incidents earlier in the season. Stenhouse returned to competition 69 laps down and eventually finished 25th.

Lets see Scott Speed try it next year in the Cup Series, racing with veterans. He may get more than he is bargaining for.

I've said it before and i'll say it again why don't they put these new drivers in the Nationwide series for a least a year. They are not ready for cup. I hope that is the direction Justin is going. Scott Speed is another Kyle Busch, only Kyle is a better driver. Scott will get a rude awaking when he gets to cup. He will really have to earn his way there.

I was glad to see Speed parked. Pat is correct in the fact that he THINKS he is another Kyle Busch! He is a bully and I am so glad to see Jason take the title away from him, although he actually gave it away himself. I'm sorry for the guys who have to race with Speed next year!

Speed purposely took out a car during a race with no regards to any of the other drivers...this is what we want to see in a driver... no wonder F1 was glad to get rid of hom...they knew what kind of person he was..

Anyone that thinks Scott Speed was wrong, obviously did NOT watch the race. Anyone who watched the race would know that Stenhouse knew the only way he was going to win the championship was if Speed wrecked, so he took it upon himself to wreck him. No one should win a championship by purposely wrecking the points leader just to win. Shame on Stenhouse. He got what he deserved when Speed retaliated. Although no driver should wreck another one on purpose for any reason.

By just reading the comments I can see how many did and didn't watch the race. What Stenhouse did was just a driver trying everything to get the Championship. Yes, he really did overdo it and ended up making a boneheaded move that should have got him parked too, but it's not like he really had a choice but to wreck Scott Speed if he wanted to even have a chance of being Champion. Either way, Justin really should be congratulated, as it looked like he didn't even have a chance of getting the championship and then he goes out there and gets it. I'm glad that finally someone in ARCA is the champion that isn't Frank Kimmel.

Don't worry about Justin. He's got a good head on his shoulders and good parents behind him. They won't let Pensky push him too far, too fast. When he does move up we'll all get to watch a man that can drive the wheels off a race car.
