Juan Pablo Montoya finishes third at Martinsville but can't gain ground in Chase
MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya seemed unfazed by the controversy surrounding an on-air remark made by ESPN college football commentator Bob Griese Saturday. Griese has apologized for the comment he made during a college football game.
Griese was asked where Montoya was in the standings and remarked the Bogota, Colombia native "was out having a taco." He later apologized during that telecast then phoned in an apology during the telecast of a later game.
Asked about the issue after finishing third in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway, Montoya seemed unconcerned.
"Somebody mentioned it to me," he said. "I don't really care, to tell you the truth. Yeah, I don't. I could say I spent the last three hours eating tacos, but I was actually driving a car. But that's okay, I don't care."

Oct 26, 2009 at 4:05 PMJuan isnt the type to make a big deal out of a comment about a taco. Says a lot about his character. Ive heard my share of Italian comments, but I consider the source and move on. Life is still good.

Oct 27, 2009 at 9:41 AMThe whole having to be "pc" stuff is out of hand. So much for freedom of speech.
Report as AbuseSo what, Montoya is eating a Taco and drinking a cup of coffee at Target. Stewart is eating a Whopper and drinking a Coke. Edwards is eating a $5 Foot Long. One of the Busch brothers is eating a bag of M&Ms while the other drinks a Miller Lite. And so on and so on and... Look at the commercials they did with Ambrose a while back where other drivers called him 'Kangaroo Meat'. He did not take offense, he helped with the commercials, they were funny.
The more attention we give to these types of situations the more power we give to the situation. Juan has the right idea, it is no big deal. People are constantly labeled, classed, put into categories, etc., of some sort all day, every day all over this world. It is the way life is.
