Juan Pablo Montoya leads first Sprint Cup practice for Brickyard 400 at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Juan Pablo Montoya led the first practice session Friday afternoon for Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Earnhardt Ganassi Racing driver turned a lap of 176.876 mph in the 60-minute session on the famed 2.5-mile track.

Two-time defending race winner Jimmie Johnson was second at 176.737 mph.

Third through fifth were Germain Racing’s Max Papis, Robby Gordon Motorsports’ Robby Gordon and Wood Brothers Racing’s Bill Elliott.

Another 1-hour practice was scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EDT. Qualifying is scheduled for 10:10 a.m. EDT Saturday.
