maybe he is tired of being a P/C poster child like hid Daddy Jeff Gordon.

Joey Logano, who was scheduled to drive the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing car in three upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup races, won’t return to the Joe Gibbs Racing affiliate this season, a spokesman confirmed Tuesday night.
Logano had been using the No. 96 to help prepare him to replace Tony Stewart in the No. 20 JGR car in 2009. But Logano has finishes of 32nd and 39th in his two outings with the No. 96 car this year and JGR opted not to have him drive at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
Ken Schrader likely will drive the No. 96 in those events.
Logano has one race scheduled with the No. 02 JGR team – in three weeks at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Oct 1, 2008 at 7:52 AMI take it sliced bread or the Phenom of Nascar just isnt ready for the big boys. If that is the case is JGR looking for someone else to drive the Home Depot car next year or split the driving?

Oct 1, 2008 at 8:50 AMIt's probably more of a case that the 96 car is junk and he just isn't used to being behind inferior equipment. I'm looking forward to his results behind the 02 car.

Oct 1, 2008 at 8:59 AMI think it is a combo of a few things one the car is not good two Lagano is not ready yet to run in the cup series. The kid had talent but not enough for cup yet. I think if they give him a couple more years in nationwide . Give him a chance to get used to the cot car and running against the big names in cup. I think by 2010 he might be ready but not now or next year. Watch out in a couple of years he will be someone the boys will have to contend with.

Oct 1, 2008 at 10:09 AMI'm with Mike Butler. I think it is the #96 car. Kenny Schrader has not run any better than what Joey has when he was in that car and we KNOW Kenny is better than that!

Oct 1, 2008 at 12:40 PMI agree the 96 car has just been up to speed. (Perhaps absentee owners do have an effect on their teams success - take note Teresa!) And what's up with Brad Coleman? He was thrust down our throats in anticpation of Lugano's debut, and then poof, he's gone! It's obvious to me someone put him into a situation in hopes they'd have their own version of Lugano with absolutely no regard for Brad's best interest! What a shame by "Hall of Fame"! On the other hand, what's up Lugano? I thought the seas had been parted for him so he could steal the show during the Chase!! Hmmm... karma, baby, karma!!

Oct 1, 2008 at 3:32 PMFact is, the 96 car that Logano drove was the JGR 02 car with 96 decals. Raines, Yeley, Coleman, Jones and Schrader all drove the HOF 96 car (which should be driven into a nearby ravine and shot).

Oct 1, 2008 at 4:34 PM"Trackdebris": I agree that the ol' HOF 96 car should be dismantled and melted down so it can never be sold as scrap. However, lost in this whole equation is that TONY RAINES drove that car unbelievably well-- especially when you consider HOF had little or no talent in the garage. Point #2: JGR is pulling Logano out of the #96 car because his lackluster finishes are "tarnishing" the patina on their new superstar. The "heat" surrounding Logano and his Nascar Cup debut next year has boiled down to a simmer now that he's been posting less than solid Cup results.

Oct 1, 2008 at 4:43 PMWell said Ashley. Agree with you 100%. But his age and no experience at the cup level are now out for all to see. I hope they let him be he needs a few more years in nationwide or they ruin him. He is just a very young kid.

Oct 1, 2008 at 5:12 PMAshley - Tony's average finish driving the 96 car in 2007 was 25.8 and the year before that 24.4, nothing to write home about, but I admit that I made a mistake by adding him to the list since the 96 car pre-2008 was a Chevy. Apples and oranges. But the lack of talent in the garage remains consistent.

Oct 1, 2008 at 6:09 PMThats exactly right Trackbebris, Their was no excuse to blame the HOF 96 because it was the 02 JGR race car with 95 decals, was a scam they play. Im starting to wonder if the coach knows what JD is always doing.

Oct 1, 2008 at 9:36 PMTo have Logano make his debut in Cup in a Chase race was bad judgment. I'm sure the first bit of advice Gibbs gave him was stay out of the way of the Chase contenders and since he wasn't racing for points I think they mainly want him to get a feel for the car that he can't get at testing. Gibbs knows Logano has talent and could become a great racer, they aren't the ones that built up all the hype around the kid. They didn't coin the phrase that he was the next best thing since sliced bread, that was the media and trackside reporters that did that. They probably just wanted him to get his feet wet in a real cup race before the start of the 2009 season. I think they probably had him rein it in a little so that he wouldn't wreak himself or any of the other drivers whether they are Cup contenders or just fighting to stay in the top 35 in owner points. Remember that he inherits the position of the #20, he doesn't have to qualify on time next year. He has nothing to prove and a lot more to lose by not running safe in the races left of this season. I think he can run with the big boys next season when he has to prove that he can hold his own. Don't count him out yet. I just hope that they keep him in the Nationwide during his rookie season. He will need all the seat time that he can get.

Oct 2, 2008 at 3:10 AMThe 96 doesn't seem to be all that great a ride A good driver can get the best out of a bad car but there's a limit. A poor driver will not get the most out of a good car. Plus - there are times when - for whatever reason - a driver and crew do not communicate effectively. When several drivers of proven ability consistently perform poorly with a given car/team it's pretty easy to figure out the area needing more attention.
