DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Joey Logano might be only 19 years old, but the Joe Gibbs Racing rookie seemingly possesses a veteran-like perspective on his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win.

Logano, who went to victory lane for the first time in 20 tries last Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, appears to have already fully shifted his focus to Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

As far as Logano is concerned, last week was just that: last week.

“It’s been cool,” said Logano, who stretched his last tank to the finish of the rain-shortened race to inherit the lead when most frontrunners had to pit late for fuel. “I tell you: It’s real neat to get that first win out of the way, but at the same time, it’s over, and you’ve got to focus on Daytona now.

“You want the off weekend as soon as you win your race, but it is what it is. and you always keep going. That’s how racing is.”

Daytona presents a new challenge for Logano, who has only two Cup starts between NASCAR’s two restrictor-plate tracks – Daytona and Talladega.

Logano finished ninth at Talladega in late April but crashed early and finished 43rd in the season-opening Daytona 500 at DIS.

“This place is one of the places I didn’t get many laps at - we wrecked out [at] lap 40 here last time,” Logano said. “I don’t have a bunch of laps to get going and know what I’ve got to do. I just looked at some data inside the trailer, seeing a few things that I’m doing wrong in the race car that can help. … We’ll keep digging at it.

“I’m sure we’ll get it figured out. Everyone is going to be slipping and sliding; it's hot out, so we’ll be slipping everywhere but having fun.”

Fun would certainly be a way to describe the past week for Logano, who became the youngest Cup winner in NASCAR history last weekend. Logano also holds the distinction as the youngest winner in Nationwide Series history, having triumphed as an 18-year-old last season at Kentucky Speedway.

“It’s going to be a tough record to beat, so that’s pretty neat,” he said of the Cup record. “Now I have that in the Nationwide Series and over here [in Cup], and I’ve got to just keep looking forward to getting more wins.”

Even if that doesn’t allow much time for reflection on past victories.

“This sport just keeps going and going,” Logano said. “There’s no time to look back and reflect on anything. You’re always going to the next thing.”
