Jimmie Johnson leads Saturday practice session at Bristol
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson led the day’s first practice at Bristol Motor Speedway, clipping off a fast lap of 122.725 mph.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who will start fourth in Sunday’s Food City 500, is winless in 16 starts at BMS.
Juan Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing), Jeff Gordon (Hendrick), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick) and pole winner Joey Logano (Joe Gibbs Racing) completed the top five.
Defending race winner Kyle Busch (JGR) continued to struggled and was just 37th fastest in the morning session.
A final practice is slated for 12:20 p.m.-1:20 p.m. EDT.
