Jimmie Johnson cancels trip to Thailand

NEW YORK – Jimmie Johnson has tabled a planned offseason trip to Thailand after protestors had shut down an airport in Bangkok for a week and left the country's government in turmoil.

“We just canceled our trip and [are] trying to think of what to do now,” the three-time NASCAR Cup champion said Tuesday. “We’re on short notice, and I’m sure we can think something out. We really wanted to travel somewhere off the wall and far. I’m not sure where we’ll end up now.”

Ironically, both Johnson and Sprint Cup competitor Carl Edwards had plans to go to Thailand. Edwards wanted to go biking throughout the country.

That wasn’t Johnson’s plan.

“I’m going to drink; I’m going to eat bad food,” the Hendrick Motorsports driver said about the planned trip. “[Edwards is] going to ride and eat...bird feed and drink water the whole time. That’s not me.

“I’d meet him and ride through a town on a bike. But to go with backpacks, from town to town to town, there’s no way. And I just don’t think it’s all that safe to ride around there right now.”

I sure wouldn't go to that part of the world. You go biking and you may never make it home. Go somewhere safe like Dubai

With the economy so bad in the US, how about spending some of your millions and vacation here!!!!!!!!!!! Like the common Nascar fans have to do. There are many beautiful places to visit right here in the states, safer too.

Hi, Jimmie I give you some advice (if you want to listen to me) why don't you take your money for the trip you was going and donate it instead. Why you want to go anywhere outside of USA just donate it to a charity that is hurting a food bank or toys for tots (or any other charity is hurting right now that you like). Take a trip next year instead when the economy is better I hope on that. I also agree with anonymous go to Hawaii or Alaska or anywhere else in the USA if you really want to go somewhere.

This is a reply to Leslie. Jimmie has a foundation where he gives loads of money to charities, why does he have to give ALL his money away? He is human and deserves a vacation like the rest of us! Gees, give the guy a break!!!!

I'm with Kelee. All these guys leave huge amounts to charity every year. Some of their hard-earned cash should be spent on whatever they want, trips or motorcycles or airplanes or whatever. Why shouldn't someone like Jimmie have some fun with his money? Remember, he also has a wife who has to sit there watching her husband go 200mph every Sunday. She deserves a break, too.

Hey Jimmie, I've got a better idea!!!Why don't you go visit one of the GM plants down in Brazil!!! You know... Have a look around and witness how efficient and profitable GM plant can be when they aren't being strangled by UNION LABOR and U.S. GOVERNMENT REGULATION and then maybe you'll reconsider your PATHETIC AND ARROGANT groveling to Nascar fans to help subsidize the sinking ship that manufactures your cup car. Bon voyage SCUMBAG!!!!!!!
