Phoenix International Raceway officials announced Tuesday that the Jimmie Johnson Foundation will be the title sponsor for the NASCAR Camping World Series race at the track next month.
The Jimmie Johnson Foundation 150 will be run April 10 at 10:15 p.m. EDT, run during the Sprint Cup and Nationwide
Series weekend at Phoenix.
“Our goal in this partnership is to give local families the opportunity to experience racing,” said Johnson, who started the Jimmie Johnson Foundation with his wife, Chandra, in 2006. “We really appreciate this opportunity with PIR and [track President] Bryan [Sperber], who reached out to us with the idea.
“Hopefully, we are able to generate some awareness for the foundation and other worthy causes in the process.”
Johnson’s foundation is partnered with the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Hendrick Marrow Program, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Johnson and his wife will participate in prerace festivities, and the foundation will host a reception during the race in one of the track’s suites.
Tickets for the reception were donated by the foundation to partner organizations, as well as the track’s charitable partner, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and the charities that Jimmie and I are passionate about helping,” Chandra Johnson said. “I’m obviously pretty familiar with prerace ceremonies, but this is the first time I will be a part of them. I am excited that some special friends of the foundation are going to help me with the command to start engines.”
