Jeremy Mayfield will test the No. 41 Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge today and tomorrow at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, but Reed Sorenson is still slated to race this weekend at Kansas Speedway, a Ganassi spokesman confirmed.
Sorenson is leaving the team at the end of the season to go to Gillett Evernham Motorsports.
There will be three Ganassi cars at the test, with Juan Pablo Montoya, Bryan Clauson and Mayfield.

Sep 23, 2008 at 11:47 AMJeremyMayfield did an AWESOME job filling in for Dario, when he was hurt, in the 41 car, at Dover this past spring..The team loved Jeremy and he was very happy with them. Everybody learned something. I think that Jeremy is a very good candidate for a ride at Ganassi's. 5 cup wins, 2 Chase berths, 96 top tens, 12 poles. Jeremy takes care of equipment. I think that Jeremy would do an awesome job!!!!

Sep 23, 2008 at 12:42 PMA winning veteran like Mayfield is just the ticket Ganassi Racing needs if they want to compete on the level of Hendricks, Rousch and JGR. With his experience, Mayfield can work with all of the teams to get the organization to the point where its drivers will be contending for top 10 finishes and wins every weekend. He's built two teams into contenders in the past. He can do it again.

Sep 23, 2008 at 12:55 PMChip has said he need a veteran driver around so it only makes sense for Jeremy to drive the 41 car. I have no doubt he is qualified to take this team to the next level.

Sep 23, 2008 at 6:23 PMJeremy Mayfield needs to be in this sport NOW!!! Way to go, Jeremy. It's HIGH TIME somebody took you SERIOUSLY again. (And if I were Chip, I'd give Reed the rest of the year off and get Jeremy in the 41 car immediately!)
