Jeremy Mayfield not among 46 drivers on preliminary entry list for Chicagoland race

By Bob Pockrass - Associate Editor
Monday, July 06, 2009

If Jeremy Mayfield is going to run in the LifeLock.com 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, it will be as a post entry.

Mayfield Motorsports Inc. does not have its No. 41 car entered on the entry list posted by NASCAR on Monday morning for the race Saturday night. Mayfield, who was granted an injunction last Wednesday lifting his suspension for alleged violations of NASCAR’s substance-abuse policy, is not listed as a driver for any of the 46 cars.

In a statement released Saturday, Mayfield said he was trying to get a car ready, crew assembled and sponsorship to make the race. Mayfield has until Thursday to enter.

Among the 46 cars entered are the 42 teams that have attempted every race, plus Hendrick Motorsports’ Brad Keselowski, Wood Brothers Racing’s Bill Elliott, BlackJack Racing’s Dexter Bean and Gunselman Motorsports’ Mike Wallace.

Elliott has a past champion’s provisional he can use, but the other three will have to qualify on speed, as will Phoenix Racing’s Mike Bliss, Tommy Baldwin Racing’s Mike Skinner, Front Row Motorsports’ Tony Raines, Prism Motorsports’ Dave Blaney, TRG Motorsports’ David Gilliland, Red Bull Racing’s Scott Speed and Nemco Motorsports’ Joe Nemechek.

Tony Eury Jr., the former crew chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr., is listed as the crew chief for Keselowski.

Mentioned Drivers: Jeremy Mayfield

It seems to me that NASCAR is trying force the Independent teams out of the sport. First it was Carl Long, then it was Jeremy Mayfield and after that it was Robby Gordon. Who is going to be next? NASCAR where did you get your start? Was it from multi car teams? NO. It was from single car owners that made you what you are, and that is what I as a long time fan would like to see continue. But I don't see that happening, because they don't bring enough money with them. NASCAR go back to your roots and at least give the INDEPENDENTS the benefit of the doubt before you shove them under the BUS.

#11, no its not thursday but you have to submit your entry at a certain time I believe on monday morning before the entry lists are released publicly. If you're name on there or the car you're going to drive, then there is a hefty fine. $5,000+ fine. That's what Jeremy was facing last weekend but he never showed up because he doesn't have that kind of money, so he's not going to show up again, unless someone gives him a ride. But as the reaction to that last weekend, I highly doubt that's going to happen. I'll be a monkey's uncle if he actually does show up this weekend.

You can submit your entry at any time up until the cars get on the track. The preliminary (as in, not yet finalized) list is posted about 5-6 days before (the Monday before) the race, with the finalized list being whoever attempts to qualify. Plus, there's an entry fee for each race anyway. As for Jeremy not being able to find sponsors, I think that's a load of crud. He's getting more media time than just about anyone in this country, and many people still believe he's innocent. Any company just wanting their name out there would be smart to sponsor him really. He's kinda desperate, so likely it would cost less to sponsor him, and he's getting tons of exposure. What's not to love out of that? If I had the money to sponsor him, I would. It's not necessarily the best circumstances, but exposure is what gets sponsors to you. Remember, even bad exposure is still exposure.

Yes, 17 there is no such thing as BAD publicity. It all gives you exposure. Look at MSP, he comes on here knocking all the good people and according to him, he still sells photos or reprints or prints, whatever he calls them. He probably doesn't even make his own photos, but sends them out to a lab so he can get by cheaper. AND make more bucks. But he sure is getting the exposure here isn't he??? - - - IF I wasn't retired, do you think I might do the same? NOT! I ran a bonafide studio for 42 years, and showed my work at the better Fine Art Shows in this state. AND I treated MY customers with respect.

Jeremy won't get a sponsor with the problem he has with NASCAR. NASCAR had better pray that he does not win this law suit. They have ruined him as a driver and a team owner. NASCAR does not want start and park teams as they stated a few months ago. It has started if you did not notice. First Carl Long then Mayfield and they are always on Robby Gordon's a-- so you can see what's going on. They want money like multi car teams and Toyota and now they want some Honda money. It's won't stop but the fans are staying away and it will be worst next year. NASCAR had better wake up quick or they will have a sport that most fans won't car about.

PeeWee littlerod, what the hell are you smokin’ ? Are you so miserable in your retirement that you can’t stand to read about someone still working for a living ? What is it to you how MSP conducts his business ??? Frankly, it’s just NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS and we are sick and tired of reading your animosity and bitterness here. So, get a life or get the hell off this site, right now ! DO you understand plain English my little man ? AND no company on the face of our planet will jump on a loser cruiser. NOBODY wants to be associated with negativism and drugs. NOBODY. I don’t care how much publicity Mayfield is getting, NOBODY would want to be associated with him.. Hell, I wouldn’t even want to pit next to him… He’d probably run over my pit crew.

I am not sure by your name what you are. Sorry. Just the facts ma'm, just the facts.- - - PS: I DID grow up and quit "smoking" back in 1970. HOW about YOU? AND I only smoked cigs and cigars, ever.
