TALLADEGA, Ala. - Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton remains fourth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings with his fourth-place run in Sunday's Amp Energy 500, but the top three drivers are now closer to within his reach.

With his finish at Talladega Superspeedway, Burton moved within 99 points of leader Jimmie Johnson, 27 of second-place Carl Edwards and 22 of third-place Greg Biffle.

Johnson finished ninth, while Biffle and Edwards placed 24th and 29th, respectively, after being involved in a late multicar crash.

"I thought we did a good job today," Burton said. "[I] had teammates that really helped me out a lot today - Clint [Bowyer] there at the end and Kevin [Harvick] early in the race. I thought all three of us worked really well there together and helped each other a lot. We ran well. All of us ran well, but more importantly we came out of here good.

"Any time you get a top-five at Talladega, you've got to be happy with it. Certainly [we'd] rather win, but this was a tough place, and just getting out of here with a top-five is always a good thing."

As for the points he gained on the top three with just six races to go in NASCAR’s 2008 Chase For The Sprint Cup, Burton was pleased.

"We had a very good points day today," he said. "There is still a lot of good racing left. I am just really proud of my team and my teammates. We worked well together out there and showed some strength. It was a good day for our AT&T Chevrolet."
