Jamie McMurray rebuffs apology attempt by Juan Pablo Montoya

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya attempted to apologize Friday morning to Roush Fenway Racing’s Jamie McMurray about an incident last week, but McMurray apparently wasn’t interested in what he had to say.
Montoya, who got into the back of McMurray last Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway, approached McMurray on Friday morning at Martinsville Speedway, and things apparently got a little heated, according to witnesses in the garage.
“I wanted to clarify what happened last weekend because I didn’t want to have any trouble with anybody, but he didn’t want to listen, and at this point it doesn’t really matter,” Montoya said. “He didn’t act the way I thought he should have, and I’m above that.”
“I’m not really sure what he was trying to say,” McMurray said. “It’s not that I’m not interested in talking to him, it’s just that I don’t know what there is to talk about.”

Mar 27, 2009 at 3:42 PMI don't think you'll find a nicer guy in the garage than Jamie Mc,so if Jamies got a problem with you, you're a real jerk and Montoya fits that desription to a t.
Report as AbuseType in Juan Montoya at youtube and look at all the hassles he's been in no matter the series, including F1.A complete head case, who thinks everyone is after him and looks to pay back every perceived slight on the racetrack.
A million dollar talent with a 10 cent brain.

Mar 27, 2009 at 6:02 PMIt's not the first time a driver wouldn't accept an apology or listen to an explanation. As far as I'm concerned, Montoya made for good racing. At least Montoya admits he intentionally wrecks someone when he does. What's going to happen this weekend? Everyone going to get their wrists slapped by NASCAR for touching somebody? It's like taking a long trip with a station wagon full of kids. Good grief, let the guys race.

Mar 28, 2009 at 6:37 AMJPM did not "move" Jamie in the corner. See Carl vs. Kyle for the win last year a Bristol to see "moving" in the corner. JPM spun Jamie out. That's simply wrecking a guy.

Mar 28, 2009 at 12:57 PMJamie chopped him off? You have to be kidding. Juan admitted the mistake, isn't that proof enough that Montoya caused the wreck? The guy is a hot head and cannot handle it when people truly race him. It is called racing for a reason, why would he expect Jamie to roll over for him?
Report as AbuseJamie did the right thing. There isn't really anything to talk about. No matter what, Montoya would do the same thing in an instant no matter how many apologies he issues.

Mar 28, 2009 at 1:12 PMWhy is it a surprise that someone didn't want to listen to Montoya "apologize" to them after intentionally wrecking them? Montoya's got this streak going where he wrecks someone and then acts like nothing happened. It's finally gotten to the point where drivers don't care what he has to say because they know that he is going to do it again anyway. If I was Jamie I wouldn't have wanted to "discuss" things with him anyway.

Mar 28, 2009 at 2:11 PMJuan Pablo is an excellent driver, and he knows it. It didn't take him long to figure out that it was possible to move someone in NASCAR without killing him. The speeds he was used to running in open wheel were far too dangerous, and here he's found a playground. He's probabably a very nice guy off the track. On the track...not so much.

Mar 29, 2009 at 6:53 PMI sure agree with Scott #9. Montoya is a loose cannon on the race track. NASCAR seems reluctant to do anything more that issue a warning. Until they decide to park him this type of driving will simply continue. There is in my view a reason that no action has been taken by NASCAR, and without saying more we most likely know what it is.

Mar 29, 2009 at 10:31 PM#18, if they parked everybody that they (NASCAR) thought was being agressive, they would have 5 cars left when the checkered flag dropped. I suppose you're satisfied with watching them go around in circles without competing for a spot. NASCAR doesn't need to take any action; they've ruined the sport enough as it is.
