JTG Racing lost two Nationwide cars in fire
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The fire that struck JTG Racing’s No. 59 NASCAR Nationwide Series hauler has likely ruined two of Marcos Ambrose’s race cars, team owner Tad Geschickter said Friday.
The hauler caught fire coming back from last weekend’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and while no one was hurt, lots of equipment was lost – including two cars.
“We’re going to clean them up and see what’s left of them,” Geschickter said. “But they look like pretty much a write-off.”
In the long run, though, that might not be so bad, Geschickter said.
“Those were our flat-track cars for Marcos,” Geschickter said with a laugh. “The way we’ve operated on the flat tracks this year, maybe it’s time for something different.”
The team used its Craftsman Truck Series hauler for Ambrose’s cars this weekend and scrambled to replace parts lost in the fire. The team lost a shock dynomometer, as well as shocks and springs and other equipment. Geschickter said the team is working with its insurance company to determine the value of what was lost.
“We’ll have to figure out a way to replace the stuff, but as long as no one was hurt, I’m OK,” Geschickter said.
