FONTANA, Calif. - It appeared for a while that there would be an all-Hendrick Motorsports front row for Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway.

Then Red Bull Racing's AJ Allmendinger, the last driver out among 44 who took laps in Friday's qualifying session, changed that.

Allmendinger ran a speed of 179.659 mph to start alongside pole winner Jimmie Johnson (180.397) and knock Johnson's Hendrick teammate, Jeff Gordon, to third.

Gillett Evernham Motorsports teammates Kasey Kahne, Patrick Carpentier and Elliott Sadler rounded out the top six.

Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s Martin Truex Jr., Bill Davis Racing's Dave Blaney, Penske Racing's Kurt Busch and DEI's Aric Almirola completed the top 10.

Tony Raines, driving the No. 70 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet this weekend, will miss the field as he was the slowest among those outside the top 35 in Cup owner points.

The No. 08 EM Motorsports Dodge driven by Johnny Sauter made its first race of 2008 in 11 qualifying attempts.

Race coverage begins at 7 p.m. EDT Sunday, with the green flag scheduled to wave just after 8.
